Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- KING, J. Lewis, 65, of Copper Hill, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, McKinley King and a daughter, Louise "Weesie" Ober. He is survived by his wife, M. Faye King; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Gale and Bobby Woods; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol King; mother and stepfather, Sylvia and Seth Poff; seven grandchildren, Stacy Woods, Robbie Woods, Jr., Connie Woods, Cathy Woods, Ann Turner, Junelle King, Amanda King; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Turner, Lacey Woods, Anthony King; sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and Steve Moran. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 8, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gardner Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- MANNING, Steve Edwin, 44, of 6928 Virginia Avenue in Pembroke, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Tuesday morning, March 6, 2001. Born in Giles County on November 19, 1956 he was a son of Dewey F. Manning of Goldbond and the late Janie Surber Manning. He had been retired on disability from his job as a millwright at the Celco Celanese Plant at Narrows. Surviving are his wife, Rita Williams Manning; his three daughters, Tammy Faye Williston of Christiansburg, Crystal Dawn Manning and Jessica Lynn Manning, both of the home; his father, Dewey Manning of Goldbond; a brother, Michael Brian Manning of Goldbond; a sister, Pamela Shawn Davis of Peterstown, W.Va.; three grandsons, Justin Williston, Corey Williston, Brandon Williston, all of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- MOORE, Anna Lee Hawkins, 94, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born December 13, 1906 in the Glade Community of Blacksburg to the late Hugh Lawrence and Nannie James Price Hawkins. She was an educator who taught the lower grades in a two room school in Lusters Gate for over a decade. She was a substitute teacher in the Blacksburg High School for many years and was honored by having The Pow Wow Yearbook dedicated to her. She was the first teacher in the Montgomery County GED Program and the rate of success of her students earning their high school diploma was one of the best in Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Moore, as well as her son, Dr. Robert C. Moore, Jr., and also four brothers and five of her sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Noble and Patsy Moore, Blacksburg; her daughter-in-law, Arline Moore, Columbus, Ga.; brother, Hugh Maurice Hawkins, New Market, Va.; and sister, Barbara Anne Frazier, Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and special cousins. Interment will be private. On Saturday, March 10, 2001, a memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Herbert Hobbs at 2:30 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home anytime Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday. He was an elder in The Presbyterian Church of Floyd. He was a member of Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854, The American Legion, DAV of Christiansburg, and was a volunteer at the American Red Cross Bloodmobile in Floyd. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a double Purple Heart recipient of the Battle of the Bulge-Belgium. He was retired owner of Floyd Automotive Supply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen David Vest, Sr. and Gertrude Wood Vest and a brother and sister-in-law, Bernice W. and Virginia J. Vest. Surviving are his wife, Susie Belle Albert Vest of Floyd; daughter, Dr. Yvonne Vest Thayer of Richmond; son and daughter-in-law, Allen David, III and Ellen M. Vest of Floyd; granddaughter, Marcee Caryn Vest of Floyd; stepgrandchildren, Lisa Sanderson of Richmond, Amanda Robertson of Raleigh, N.C., Julie Leshko of Richmond; stepgreat-grandchildren, Michael Robertson of Raleigh, N.C., Gabby Sanderson of Richmond, Thayer Leshko of Richmond. Wright, Sr.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Gale and Everett Stowers, Kathy and Les Nester, all of Newport, Robin and Holt Hottel of Christiansburg, Lila and Lee Owens of Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, D. Caudill Jr. and Debbie Wright of Roanoke, Steve and Kathy Wright of Christiansburg; fifteen grandchildren, Penny Harless and husband, Chuck, Jacquie Peyton and husband, David, Adam Wright and wife, Robin, Glenn Stowers, Zach Wright, Christie Martinez, Rhonda Ervine, Melissa Gregory and husband, Dan, Jeff Nester and wife, Kimber, Ashley Wright, Matthew Wright, Meghan Hottel, Conley Owens, Kyle Owens, and Malia Owens; and ten great-grandchildren.
