New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- AMOS, Gracie May Vest, 93, of Shawsville, glided through the Pearly Gates of Heaven into her Savior's arms on Thursday, March 15, 2001. Waiting there to meet her was her husband, James M. (Jake) Amos, her mother and dad, James Noah Vest and Lottie Ellen Light Vest, sisters, Bertie, Calma, Alma, Mary and Lois, and a brother, Willie, and a great-granddaughter, Breann Burchett. She leaves behind to mourn their loss and cherish her memory a son and daughter-in-law, Teddy J. (T.R.) and Jo Vest of Shawsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Burchett and Florence Amos, both of Roanoke, Edna and Melvin Lutz of Salem, Nancy and Martin Gale Gallimore of Ironto; a sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and John Akers of Elliston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dayton and Ann Vest of Shawsville, Edgar and Nina Vest of Dublin. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2001. The Rev. Jeff Wilson and the Rev. David Tanner will officiate. Interment will follow in Congregational Holiness Cemetery in Shawsville. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- CONNER, Kenneth M., 58, of Pilot, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 16, 2001. He was employed by Mechanical Development in Salem. Mr. Conner was preceded in death by his parents, John Cledys and Willie Sisson Conner. He is survived by his wife, Barbara W. Conner; sister, Francis Conner Sowers; brother, Earl Conner; special cousins, Peggy Conner, Macle Conner, Gerlene Conner; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 18, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Lane Spiegner officiating. Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Floyd Parsonage Building, 915 Cambria Street, N.W., Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
