The Roanoke Times New River Obituaries Published on Monday, January 01, 2001 - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- BISHOP, Essie Bowman, 87, of Christiansburg, died Sunday, December 31, 2000. Arrangements are pending are Horne Funeral Service. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LUSK, Mildred O., 86, of Check, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2000. She was born in St. Louis, Mo. on July 23, 1914. Mrs. Lusk attended Haven's Chapel United Methodist Church and was a member of The United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Lusk. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, LaNora and Don King of Check, Nina and Gordan Smith of Dunwoody, Ga.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at Haven's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Rick and Liz Eckland and the Rev. Lane Speigner officiating. Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haven's Chapel United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Floyd County Rescue Squad #3 or Floyd Parish Parsonage Fund, c / o Judy Wimmer, Christiansburg, Va. Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PHILLIPS, Essie Bea Phillips Spence, 86, of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 30, 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dollie Phillips and her husbands, Charlie P. Spence and F. Simmons Phillips. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Carlie J. and Ellen Spence of Floyd; daughter and special friend, Verlie Quesenberry and Terry White of Pulaski; sisters, Olivia Gardner of Floyd, Trudy Slaughter of Christiansburg; brother and sister-in-law, Theron and Agnes Phillips of Floyd; sister-in-law, Eavie Phillips of Willis; stepsons and wives, Fletcher and Versie Phillips of Willis, Gerald and Lora Mae Phillips of Indian Valley, Rhudy and Jean Phillips of Fayetteville, N.C., Olen and Wilma Phillips of Rocky Mount; stepdaughter and husband, Constance and Charlie Moogolian of Richmond; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Wurzburger and the Rev. Michael Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Turman Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Maberry Funeral Home. Box 257, Floyd, Va. 24091. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- WILLIAMS, K.T., (Jack), 86, of Christiansburg, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 29, 2000. He was born in Lowe, W.Va., November 5, 1914. He was dearly loved and admired by family, friends and co-workers. K.T. possessed a kind heart, a gentle spirit and was a faithful, generous friend. He was a precision craftsman of model airplanes and trains. He retired as a machinist working at Mechanical Development Company. He loved music and animals, especially his loyal dog, "Buttons." He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Thomas Williams and Martha Alice Walls and a brother, Haven Jewel Williams. K.T. was a loving and devoted family man to his wife Helen for 63 years and his daughter, Nancy Ann Williams. He was a brother to Ripley F. Williams and Betty Weimer; brother-in-law to Agnes Vest Dunn, Marie Williams, and Jack McDonald; uncle to Ripley Williams, Jr., Alice Williams, Karen Williams, Beth Williams, Leslie Dunn, Lisa Godwin, Ken Jones, and Joni Wright. K.T. was a loyal member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was a 56 year member and Past Master of Princeton Lodge #134, A.F. & A.M. The family wishes to give a special thanks to all the friends as well as staff of Montgomery Regional Hospital for their loving support and prayers. The family will receive friends Monday, January 1, 2001, at Horne Funeral Service from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Christiansburg, with the Rev. Doug Kanney officiating. Pallbearers will be from the Christiansburg Masonic Lodge. Graveside rites will be conducted by McDaniel's Lodge #86 A.F. & A.M. at Monte Vista Cemetery in Bluefield, W.Va. at 2 p.m. The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24068.
