Reese Funeral Home in Austinville is in charge of the arrangements. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- EASTERLIN, Oaka Price, 90, of Pembroke, died Friday evening, January 5, 2001, in a Greensboro, N.C. nursing home. Born on January 10, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Martha Ellen Denton Price (Ella) and Winford Bracket Price (W.B.) of Pembroke. Oaka was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pembroke, a sister in The Order of the Eastern Star and has served as Worthy Matron of Norview Chapter No. 131 in Norfolk and had been active in the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Easterlin (Happy) and a sister, Evelyn P. Pack with whom she made her home for the last twenty years. Surviving are two nieces and their husbands, Jane and Donald Knibb of Greensboro, N.C., Oaka and Richard Wortman of Burlington, N.C.; and several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday evening in Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home in Greensboro with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the services. Burial will follow on Monday at 1 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the First United Methodist Church in Pembroke. He was born January 10, 1950. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edd Lindsey; her mother and father, Joe and Callie Sadler; two sisters, Becky and Hazel; and her second husband, Coyie Merix. She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Jean; four special grandchildren, Brandon, Coyie, Keila and Cara; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Ilene Stewart of Emporia, Kan., Anna Lee Dresser of Staffordsville, Bertie Mae and Lawrence Collins, Mary Jane and Bobby Martin of Christiansburg, June and Johnny Cox of Blacksburg; several nieces and nephews; and a host of church and family friends. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marcia Miller Murphy; also sons, Geoffrey Scott and Benjamin Todd; mother, Jean Murphy; sisters, Eileen Ramus and Ann Kostell; and brothers, Paul, Mark and Gerald. He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Murphy. He was employed by Virginia Tech for 25 years. He earned his B.S. at Baldwin Wallace College, Ohio and his M.S. and Ph.D. at Virginia Tech. She was born in Montgomery County, Va. on September 7, 1905 to the late Frank A. and Ida V. Hale Slusser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy Lewis Price, a son, Jack P. Price, and a grandson, Christopher Glen Price. She was a lifelong member of the Slussers Chapel Church of God and helped start the Mt. Tabor Nursery School. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Carolyn Price of Daleville, Glen and Barbara Price of Blacksburg; a daughter-in-law, Janice Price and special friend, Tom Lafon of New Castle; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends at Slussers Chapel Church of God. He was a graduate of Pulaski High School, Class of 1968. He attended Wytheville Community College and VCU in Richmond. Born September 30, 1927 in Russell Co., Va., and was the son of the late Frank T. Shomaker and Fern Towe Shomaker. He was a W.W. II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired self- employed contractor for over 29 years and prior to that he was an employee to G.E. in Waynesboro and Salem for ten years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a charter member of the Pulaski County Life Saving Crew, a member of the Pulaski Elks Club, a member of the American Legion Post #7, a member of the Korean War Association, and a member of the former Civitan Club in Pulaski. He is preceded in death by a sister, Virginia S. Cox. He is survived by his wife, Ellen "Ann" Stafford Shomaker; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Sandy Holston of Hickory, N.C.; two brothers, Neuel Kirkland Shomaker of Pulaski, and Edwin Baker Shomaker of Dublin; five sisters, Mrs. Clyde "Carolyn" Hanks of Pulaski, Mrs. Harry "Florence" Nester of Draper, Mrs. Bill "Frankie" Yopp of Shawsville, Mrs. Jack "Shirley" Via of Pulaski, and Mrs. Bill "Peggy" Ratliff of Clarksville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Lauren Ann Holston and Lindsey Noel Holston, both of Hickory, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Charles Stafford of Pulaski; many nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, James F.
