List I only joined this list recently to find "the New River". I know where the river is itself but I think I am looking for a place/community named New River. A fellow researcher found New River on a VA map and it was only a small circle on the North side of New River (the River) above the NW corner of Radford VA. We ordered the Pulaski and Montgomery County maps but New River (the place) is not there. According to the Moravian Memoirs of George Frederick Hartman and also his wife's, they moved from Conestoga PA to "the New River". The Indians were so bad that they only stayed 2 1/2 to 3 weeks before they moved again to Townfork (the area of present day Walnut Cove, Germanton and Bethania NC) in 1755. George had a son-in-law Henrich Schneider who left present day Forsyth Co NC and "traveled over the Mountains to New River to visit his brother". On the return trip to NC he was crossing a foard across LITTLE River when he drowned. Can someone on this list explain the geography/history of the New River that I am probably looking for??? I have seen the New River Obituaries that Rena Worthen has been submitting to this list but they have been in several Towns/Cities. Thanks Buddy Pritchett in NC

Posted on: Pulaski Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Pulaski/10338 Surname: Fortune, Fleeman, Dawson, Stinson, Thomasson, Davidson, Henderson ------------------------- Steve, Interestingly enough, after I posted the message this weekend, I found the answer to a couple of my questions. One was, who were her parents? They were Thomas and Sarah Thomasson Fleeman. Sarah apparently died rather young. And who was the other Elizabeth Fleeman listed in the Pulaski Co. census, whom I had assumed was her mother? She turned out to be (I believe)Thomas Fleeman's second wife, but I'll have to verify that. Also, I just wanted to mention that I heard from one Fleeman researcher, who IS a Fleeman, that all the Fleemans in VA. were related. Unfortunately, he didn't get back to me, so I have no other information from him. If I find out that Elizabeth and John Henry are linked, I'll let you know. Thanks, Janet

Hello Lister: I have a question about a name. Several kids in my great great great line have the middle name of Linkous. What are the chances of this name being the maiden name of the great, great, great, grandmother? I have not been able to find any information on her other than she married Craig Sheffy, per the 1870 for Pulaski County. I believe she was a widow prior to marrying Craig because she had kids too old to be Craig's. The marriage did not take place in Pulaski Co, where Craig was born. Two of the lister were gracious enough to look at the county house for me. Can someone offer a suggestion? Oh her name was Amanda (Mandy) and she died prior to 1881 most likely in Pulaski Co. Thanks Angela

Posted on: Pulaski Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pulaski/10326 Surname: beverly ------------------------- I'm not sure of the county, because all I know of the parents is that they were residents of Virginia and alive in the 1940's. There were Beverly families in Pulaski county in the 1920's, and Frank (born 1920-22) may be one of their children. He doesn't seem to be a descendant of Frank Monroe Beverly, the best-known Frank!
