Jan, The DeLorme Virginia Atlas & Gazeteer shows Buffalo Creek commencing near Darlington Heights and then flowing northeast and crossing the combined Routes 15 and 460 just east of Farmville and then flowing into the Appomattox River east of Farmville. I'm interested in knowing how Rice got its name, too. The William Rice you referred to was the son of Matthew Rice, my 5 X GG. He administered on his father's will. Afterwards, he moved to KY with some of the Burkes family (of Burkes Old Tavern). Matthew's will speaks of his plantation on the SAndy River, so it must have been at the location of Rice. Two of Richard Burkes' sons married daughters of Matthew Rice--my 4 X GG Charles Burks married Sarah Rice. His brother Thompson Burks married Anna Catharine Rice. Need to know how one would go about locating documents for 2 girls Mary and Eliza Baldwin whose legal guardian was Kenner Fowlkes back in the early 1800's. Kenner married the girls' sister in 1819 Warren Co NC at which time he apparently had legal guardianship as they went with Kenner and his sife Catherine (their sister) to Hickman Co KY. Also why did Kenner and] Catherine marry in Warren Co NC? Never did figure this one out. Thanks
Need information on a Baldwin family in the area circa late 1790's the children were Catherine, Mary, Eliza and Saint Clair, Catherine married Kenner Fowlkes, Sait Clair married Sarah Maria Pillar/Pillow in Amelia Co. The other girls I do not recall who they married believe one married a Fleming. The girls went with Kenner and Catheirne to Hickman Co KY where he was their guardian. Sait Clair and wife followed them as well to Hickman CO KY. WHo were the childrens' parents? Thanks so much for your help.

It lists his marriage date as 12 Aug 1824; the Alabama marriage records scanned into the internet show the marriage date as 11 Aug 1824, Madison County, Alabama. McRobert, (Theodoric) Archibald obituary, Enquirer, Richmond, Virginia, 16 Oct 1824, Vol. XXI, Issue 48, page 3 Footnote (short) Enquirer, 16 Oct 1824 Bibliography Enquirer. Richmond, Virginia, 16 Oct 1824 Actual text "Communicated DIED - At Athens, Alabama, on the 7th (illegible), after an illness of eight days, Col. ARCHIBALD MCROBERT, son of Theodorick B. McRobert, late of Prince Edward county, Virginia. Col. Archibald McRobert removed to Alabama in the summer of 1819, his honorable and exemplary conduct even secured him the good will and esteem of the most numerous and most respectable of the community. This appears from his being elected by large majorities to offices of high trust in the county in which he resided. He was married on the 12th of Aug last to Miss Maria Blackbourne, whom a gentleman from that county describes as, 'a girl of high respectability and good parentage.' >From a letter written by the Rev. Daniel P. Bestor to the mother of the deceased, we make the following extract, which we doubt not, will prove highly consoling to his numerous friends and connexions in this state - 'On being asked if he was afraid to die, he answered, 'all of us are afraid to die.' I questioned him relative to his belief in Jesus, and he assured me that he did believe in him. On being questioned further he told us that he had a hope of happiness after death. About ten o'clock we thought he was dying. Both he and his wife requested me to pray. Immediately after prayer his countenance seemed more than usually lightened up with expression and joy. He then took hold of his wife and said, 'I'm happy.' I asked him again if he was afraid to die? He answered - 'No.' He then expressed a lively hope of happiness beyond this world.' The letter concludes with the following information - 'I preached his funeral sermon in the court house to a large and attentiv! e! audience.' Col. M. was about 27 years of age. In his death Society has lost both a useful and ornamental member. In his disposition he was tender and affectionate. In his principles he was honourable and disinterested. Long shall it be ere his memory sleeps- Long ere his name be forgotten, or his virtue obilterated." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The family Bible was left to Elizabeth MCROBERT, daughter of Rev. Archibald MCROBERT. She married Samuel CARTER 1 Jan 1798. I will have to go through more papers to see if I have anything on this CARTER line. I am also going to check out the comments regarding a brother named Alexander as that information is not in my database. I have seen some information indicating there was an Alexander MCROBERTS who was in the same area as our ancestor.
