    3. Think I MIGHT be able to help you with this one...lol. Matthew Rice Sr. of Prince Edward County had a son, James Rice. He also had a son or grandson, Rowlett Rice, who went to Kentucky. SUPPOSEDLY, Matthew Sr's 2nd wife, who was considerably younger than him, was said to have been "Anne McGehee". She remarried after Matthew's death, and there was a big stink she made over his estate about 1775. His younger children apparently were by Anne.. This may be where your connection will be on this one. Think Joseph Rice Sr. may also have had a son named James. Joseph died 1765 in Prince Edward County, and his wife, if I recall, was Rebecca ____. Apparently his son, Joseph Rice Jr. was tied in with David Cheatham's family in Halifax County. Think Joseph Jr. married Mary Cheatham, d/o David. pat <[email protected]> wrote: Here is what I would like to figure out. 3. Ok I looked up this John Moore in my Edward Mcgehee records and was from Charlotte Co Va where his dau was b 1748 and later they moved to Caswell where he died in 1777. Have his will .Exec was his son in law Mumford McGehee. Now the original name is Montford and Mumfords grson a lawyer corrected it later. In the will of John Moore he says Montfort. 3. This is so neat. Capt Francis Epps of Nottoway Co originally Nottoway Parish in Amelia was married to my Tucker line. Also the Worshams married several times to my Tuckers . They are from PE and Nottoway /Dinnwiddie and related several times by marriage to the Ellingtons who also married into my Hawkins/Wadill/McGehee lines in early Pr Ed. Geeze my tree don't fork .LOL Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: "W. D. Smith" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 17, 2008 4:27 PM Subject: Re: [VAPRINCE] Col. 3. Remember that Prince Edward County was formed out of Amelia County in 1754, and I think the John Nash "Jr." was most likely a son of John Nash, Sheriff of Henrico/Chesterfield County. I see these Nash's in fairly close proximity to Francis Rice even in Amelia and P.E. County after 1739. So they're undoubtedly the same family as was earlier in Henrico/Chesterfield County. Sandra Due <[email protected]> wrote: My ancestors were Abner Nash (d. 1814), (son of Thomas Nash), and Lucy Gaulding (m. 8 June 1810), (daughter of Jesse Gaulding). I believe Abner Nash was born in Charlotte Co., but since he died at such an early age I do not know much else about him. I am descended through his daughter Martha P. Nash who married 4 Feb 1837 to Robert R. Dickerson in Prince Edward Co. Is this the same family as John Nash of Prince Edward? 3. Yep, John Nash who bought land in 1734 from Francis Rice in Henrico County, on Swift Creek, adjacent Moses Ferguson, William Jackson, and very near Francis Epps' property, was Sheriff of Henrico County at the time. So this should help pin down exactly which bunch of Nash's this was. There are a lot of Nash's in Putnam County, TN where my Rice's here settled when it was still White County. May be some sort of connection. But the ones here married into my Lafever family. Newton Nash married America Lafever in either White or DeKalb County, and they're buried in the Nash cemetery near Cookeville, TN. Sarah Womack's father was Thomas Womack, who was the son of Abraham Womack, Sr. and Sarah Worsham. Abraham supposedly, according to some, married Sarah Somerscales after his first wife died. I have this Womack family back to a William Womack, said to be the immigrant to Bermuda Hundred, who was married to an Allen. 3. My ancestors were Abner Nash (d. 3. I am curious about Jonathan Cheatham Jr., born about 1732, son of Jonathan Cheatham Sr. who married Bethany ____. What records are there on Jonathan Cheatham in P.E. County after 1759, when his father died? I am almost of the opinion that Jonathan Jr. was Molly Rice's husband. He's the only Cheatham in that immediate vicinity near Francis Rice's family that fits. He had a brother, Robert Cheatham, who married Frances Puckett, and they went to Lunenburg County, VA. Peter Cheatham may be another brother. He was also in P.E. County during the Revolutionary War. 2. W. D. Smith
    3. Thanks. I wasn't aware of the McGehee connection to Samuel Cobbs. This is indeed interesting. It was Samuel Cobbs Sr. who was married about 1717 to Edith Marot, who was still living at the time of Samuel's death in 1717. So Cobbs would have been just a few years older than Francis Sr., whom we estimate was born probably about 1711. It is possible he was a bit earlier - perhaps 1705-1711. Sarah Womack would have been born probably 1710-1713. Sarah married Francis Rice between August 7, 1732, when he sold the first bit of his land to John Grissel, and January 4, 1734, when Sarah relinquished her dower rights to the remaining 138 acres he sold to John Nash. They were then in Amelia County by 1739, when Francis appears on the tax list there. Sarah was still alive at the time of Samuel Cobbs's will in 1757. Francis Jr. didn't married Eleanor (McGehee) Smith until February 3, 1790. I do think it IS possible, however, that Francis Jr's first wife could have been a McGehee. Abraham Rice, Francis Jr's brother, witnessed the will of John Moore Sr. in Orange County, NC in 1775, and John had a grandson, John Moore McGehee. I am told also that one of John Moore's daughters, Mary, married a Rice, or one of his sons married a Rice. Not sure how this plays out, but there must be some earlier connction between my Francis Rice family and the McGehee's and Moore's. John Moore Jr. witnessed a deed Abraham Rice made in 1773, and think also John Jr. witnessed a document for Francis Rice Jr. in 1786 in P.E. County. Another name that keeps popping up is "Scott" . Walter Scott was a witness for Samuel Cobbs' will in 1757, if I recall. There was a "Rice Scott" in P.E. County in the 1770's -1790's, etc.. and in Williamson County, TN one of Fanny Rice Harper's sons was involved in an altercation involving a Scott. pat <[email protected]> wrote: I should have also included the Mary Mumford DeJarnette died in Pr Ed Co and was living with her son in law Jacob Mcgehee at the time of her death. 3. Ruby, I am so excited to hear from you. Let me tell you a little story. For many years I have wanted and tried to get this book. It was never available and when it was the price was out of reach for a old lady on SS.Then this last fall there were 3 on the market. One was like new and very expensive, one less but still high. This one was worn but intact. It was thru a rare book dealer in Wytheville.I called and was told it was in very used condition with pencil markings and cover stains etc. I grabbed it for $150.00. When it came, I caressed it like one would a child who is greatly loved. And I started looking thru it. I noticed the letter ,plus pages were marked with old stamps and obit clippings. The old 2 cent carmine US stamp is my favorite but also others from around the world. Her name and address was on the inside page. I felt the weirdest connection as tho she had reached out to me in cold snowy Wyoming from somewhere. Now you are telling me she is passed on. This is absolute proof there are genealogy "angels". She wanted this book to have a special home and it does now. You see I have a huge collection of Gen Books from VA/NC/TN collected over 50 years and each and every one is marked up and stained and well worn. My notes on the sides of pages. Some are rare and even some never published. Just mss type.I love them all so much . She must have loved this book too. Now please write me privately as I have more to tell you. But also would like very much to know about this sweet lady . Like her name and how she got it. When she was born and died .I fantasized about her being a real Princess and a world traveler which I am not. But maybe it was her given name. In any case the letter belongs with family not with me. I will mail it to you by snail mail. Some of it is personal. But also genealogy. Pat PS I have 9 pins with DAR and am eligible for 5 more. But its not my priority any longer as I am too far away from chapters where I now live. I also use to be in the Ancient Planters Soc since my Tuckers had come in 1607 to Jamestown . ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2008 10:23 PM Subject: Re: [VAPRINCE] Hamilton -Flippen-Haywood-Baker >I knew Princess. 2. I knew Princess. She was a DAR member as I am and I live in Baltimore, MD so we saw each other mostly at DAR functions. We were also distant cousins since Francis FLIPPEN & Mary HUDGINS are my direct ancestors. I have them marked with * on the linage chart that I sent before. Is there anything in the letter of a genealogical nature? Thanks, Ruby Talley Smith **************Start the year off right. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos to go with the article, unless I can scrounge up some pics of the Pucketts. I do have one old pic of the Rev. William Rice of Wayne County, KY who was a son of Abraham Rice of Prince Edward County. I suppose I could include that! Oldest pic I have. I'll see what I can do today about dividing this up into smaller sections, lol! Thanks, Will Edwina Covington <[email protected]> wrote: Willie, It is 10 cents for every word over the thousand. That totals $137.70. I suggest that you cut the articles into several parts, perhaps by generations and then none of the articles would have an extra charge. Also, the publisher wants a running narrative style more than a number list. It wouldn't be hard to change your format into that. Very good reading. Do you have pictures to go with the articles?
