    2. W. D. Smith
    3. They were probably children of either Matthew Rice Sr., or Joseph Rice Sr. and actually born in that part of Amelia County which became Prince Edward County, VA in 1754. Charles Rice, Matthew's son, died, about 1770 and had several children who went to Kentucky. Think Joseph Rice's son James Rice was still in Amelia County after 1754. I tend to agree with you about Sally's death, because the information I have shows her last child born abt 1810, then Arnold marries again to this Ligan lady Jan 14, 1812. Speaking of the Ligans, one of Arnold & Sally's sons married Elizabeth Ligan Mar 20, 1826, but I have no way of knowing if she was related to this Mrs Elizabeth Ligan or not. However, I imagine this could be her daughter since they were not related. 3. I don't mean to butt into your discussion I have not been following this post, You are asking about a will in Pr Edward Va? I am from Missouri, my last visit to that courthouse was last October, the will books are done by several years at a time, and if I remember right, all the T's are together,,,, all B names are together etc, so all they would have to do is go the the will book that would cover say maybe even 30 yrs at a time, and look under the 1st letter of last name, it should not be that difficult. write to Prince Edward County Clerk, PO Box 304 Farmville, Va. 23901 phone # is 434- 392- 5145 be sure to offer to pay for photocopying and mailing, most wills do not require more than 3 pages. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2008 9:19 PM Subject: Re: [VAPRINCE] Moores and Rice's > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: wanlarhan > Surnames: Rice, Thomason, Smith, Ligan > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.princeedward/1306.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I would love to have a copy of this will, but I don't know if they would > look it up without my sending a date the will was written ot recorded or > something. I doubt very seriously that they divorced. If they did, it would be in the chancery suits for Prince Edward County. Divorce was exceedingly rare at the time. It is most likely that she died. 3. Hi MaryLouise, I wish I knew who the parents were. My goal has been to trace all my lines back to the immigrant who came to America. James Mickle was the most recent one I have found. I do have a copy of a posting done by Clyde Mickle who says the father was William Mickle and that the 3 boys (George, William and James) were born in Glasgow, Scotland. It seems to me that James was listed as being born in Glasglow from a census record. One thing that Clyde had wrong was that Harriet Mickle, daughter of James, was the child of wife America Seay. She was actually the daughter of James' first wife, Jane Elam, and is mentioned in her grandfather Elam's will. Will look in my notes and see if I can find anything else. The posting was from Genforum.com, Nov. 13, 2005. Will let you know if I find anything else! 3. Yep, Matthew Rice Sr's son, William Rice, went into Muhlenburg County, KY by 1810, then moved on to Missouri. James Rice, s/o Matthew Sr. went to Kentucky, finally to White Co. Illinois. Charles Rice, s/o Matthew Rice Sr., had sons Charles Jr., Rosolett Rice, Andrew "Anderson" Rice, and Matthew "Mat" Rice. I have seen these children in KY records. They moved to Garrard and Lincoln Counties, KY. Nathan Rice, s/o Matthew Rice Sr. married Lavinia Crenshaw. They went to Mercer Co. KY 1807. Nathan died there 1816 with a will: Chilren were Nathan Jr., James, Gabriel, Jesse, Lucy, Letitia, Nancy Eliza, Anna, Susannah. Sarah Rice, d/o Matthew Rice, Sr. married a Mr. Burke in Washington Co. KY in 1821. Her sister Ann married a Thomas Burks in P.E. County, VA in 1782, probably a brother or uncle to her husband. Four sons and two daughters of Abraham Rice Sr. , son of Francis and Sarah (Womack) Rice, went to the Adair/Green/Wayne County, KY area by 1802: Thomas Joules Rice: was in Wayne Co. KY by 1810. He settled in Randolph Co. MO by 1840. James Rice: was in Wayne Co. KY by 1810. He went to Monroe Co. MO by 1840. Died there 1848. Rev. William "Billy" Rice: was in Wayne Co. KY by 1820. Was 2nd pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Parmleyville. Murdered 1864 by Confederate guerrillas. Abraham Rice, Jr. married in 1802 Adair County, KY to Elizabeth Stapp. Apparently she was a daughter of John Stapp who purchased land in Campbell County, VA in 1788 from Joseph Akin. Akin was the father-in-law of Charles Puckett, son of Elizabeth (Rice) Puckett, who was the sister of Abraham Rice Sr. and Thomas Rice Sr. (children of Francis Rice Sr. and Sarah Womack Rice of P.E. County, VA). I now find that my missing siblings of my 4th great-grandfather William B. Rice (1794-1845) of White Co. TN were also married in Adair county, KY 1802-1813: Benjamin Rice - married Nancy Walker Adair Co. KY 1802 Nancy Rice - married Thomas Bristoe/Bristow Adair Co. KY 1802. Think she died before 1806, as Thomas Bristow remarried that year. Sally Rice - married Joel Deer/Deere Adair Co. KY 1813 I suspect the Charles Rice on 1819 Knox Co, KY/1820 Harlin Co KY may have been their other brother. Thomas Rice's children were named in the division of the William Womack estate in Charlotte Co. VA in 1803, and again in the Josiah Womack suit for his father's part of the same estate, in Caswell County, NC in 1816. Thomas Rice, may be the same Thomas Rice in Hardin County KY in 1810. Hope this helps, at least regarding the Rice's! Joseph Rice's son, "Icay" Rice, was killed during the Revolutionary War, and his wife and chldren were taken into Canada by the British. Not sure about the other surnames you mentioned. Will Terri <[email protected]> wrote: Pat, I saw your previous e-mails. The names Rice, Watkins, Ligon and Moore are my family names. 3. The Atwood connection I'm familiar with....there are later connections to the Joseph Rice family. One of the Atwoods sent me a CD in Excel spreadsheet format with his research. If I had MS Office, I could copy it and send it to you later. It had a LOT of Rice info on it...
