William was listed as executor, but there is no will on file at the courthouse. His "estate" was pitfully small having a value of less than 9 pounds and consisting of such items as a part of a set of shoemakers tools, compasses, and rule, carpenters had tools and planking, farming equipment and some miscellaneous houssehold furniture." Bass, 91 Of Rice Dies Thursday RICE,May 27 - Beatrice Dreher Bass, 91, of Rice, died quietly Thursday May 22, 2003 at her home. Born November 16, 1911 in Coshocton County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Eva Miller Dreher. A graduate of Maryville College, Maryville, Tennessee, she spent most of her life in the Rice community where she was fondly known as "Aunt Bee". She was an active, long time member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, ws the Snnyside Presbyterian Home Links of Love chairman and was involved in many Presbyteran Women's programs. She also served as District Chairman at the Presbytery level and was awarded a Life Membership pin for dedicated service. Other community involvements included Prince Edward County Home Extension Club and the Farmville Women's Club. However she will be most remembered for her dedication to her family. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, B. Calvin Bass; four daughters, Elinor Hopkins and husband, Jim of Lynchburg, Virginia Eaddy and husband, John of Knoxville, TN. Martha Bishop and husband, Skip of Floyd and Beverly Hines and husband, John of Rice; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a nephew, Richard Dreher of Cape May, NJ. Interment was in the Bass Family Plot at Pisgah Baptist Church, Rice,on May 24. A memorial service followed at Jamestown Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William L. Wilson and the Rev. Arthur Stevens officiating for both occasions. Music was provided by John Eaddy and the Somers Family and a reception was given by the members of Jamestown Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Home, 100 Sunnyside Lane, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 or to Jamestown Presbyterian Church, Lockett Road, Rice, VA 23966. Patte, There is one more child for Samuel Rice and wife Eleanor. William Rice, born about 1795. He was living near his brother Isham Rice in Halifax County, and was still there in 1850 after Isham moved to Williamson County, Tennessee where his other siblings had moved with their mother in 1813. I went up to Franklin, TN last year, and copied James Rice's estate papers, and found William mentioned as a brother. Whoever transcribed his records inadvertantly omitted him. I thought he was my William until I found him in Halifax in 1850. I don't have ancestry, so not sure if he was still alive in 1860, 70, etc..
