Author: William_McClurg Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.princeedward/703.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for responding. the Case of Nathaniel McClurg is a puzzle to us McClurg researchers. We have never been able to find a family for him in Virginia although tax records list a Widow McClurg for early Prince Edward County, VA. There might be two Nathaniel McClurgs of this time period. One who settled in Lincoln County, NC near Crouse and the Nathaniel McClurg who married Polly Redd. OR, these two Nathaniel McClurgs could be one and same. There is a farm near Crouse, NC where the family has their cemetery. Nathaniel McClurg of this family is buried on this farm. If you have proof of Nathaniel McClurg's death in Green County Georgia, then this would be the seperating factor. According to our records, we have a Nathaniel McClurg who married Polly Redd. They had one dau. Harriet who married Thomas Cunningham, cousin, and they lived in Green Co GA. When Harriet died, Polly Redd went and stayed with Thomas and family to look after their children. We have no record that Ha! thaniel McClurg also went to Green County Georgia. Possibility that Polly Redd was the second wife of Nathaniel McClurg of Lincoln Co NC and when he died she may have gone on to be with her daughter. Redds and Cunninghams are well documented, McClurgs are much less documented and any clues about Nathaniel would have to be a side note among these surnames records. If you can supply me with the cemetery or the area in Green Co GA to search for these graves I would appreciate it. Of this early period in the tidewater Virginia , I only have two McClurg families listed, Dr. Walter McClurg of Hampton, VA and his son, Dr. James McClurg of Richmond. The latter being one one of our founding fathers of America. (see Founding Fathers on Google) The other family listed is the "Widow McClurg" of Prince Edward Co. of which we have no info. Thanks for your response, you can see I have a long way to go. William T. McClurg Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
