Author: tunnelm1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.princeedward/584.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: UPDATE: It now seems certain that William Davidson and Martha Baker did not buy land from the Murray family in Botetourt Co., VA in 1774. That was a different and unrelated (per DNA testing) William Davidson who came to VA from PA (he married Sarah McCoy and the widow Mrs. Elizabeth (Wilson) McCRea). It now appears that William Davidson and Martha Baker bought land in Botetourt by 1779 (and their land never became part of Rockbridge Co., VA, it appears). Also, the Joseph Davidson (died 1820s) who married Jinny Wilson was out of the above-referenced William Davidson from PA (whose land in Botetourt became part of Rockbridge Co., VA in 1778). The unrelated Joseph Davidson (died 1814), who WAS a son of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson, apparently died without a wife or children. The Thomas Davidson who I showed as a possible son of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson now seems to have been from yet another/third Davidson/Davison family in the Botetourt/Rockbridge Co., VA area (per DNA testing). Also, the Elizabeth "Betsy Ann" Davidson who had an affair with a David Smith MAY have been out of that unrelated Thomas Davidson, versus out of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson (based a couple "clues"). Based on tax lists in the 1780s in Botetourt, it appears that William and Martha (Baker) Davidson had an oldest son whose name is not proven....and who seems to have left Botetourt (or died) by 1785. The four younger known sons were 1) Baker Davidson, 2) William Davidson, Junior, 3) Rev. Andrew Baker Davidson and Joseph Davidson. I know that he was born in Prince Edward, VA, married in Halifx to a descendent of Col. Thomas Bedford, Migrated to MS, and died there at some point. I would really like to tie Ben Allen to his parents to trace the line on back. It is obvious to me which Allen Clan he belongs to, I just cannot pin down the exact family unit. Clearly there is a relationship to James Anderson Allen as Ben named his son that name. From the James Anderson Allen children, there were 2 sons who went to Prince Edward County but that is where my trail goes cold. I can't seem to related my Benjamin Anderson Allen to either of those 2 sons and make the dates work. urk. : ( Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I have those e-mails printed out for future reference. I had them with me when I went to Farmville the second time, but I had forgtten that day was Columbus Day, so the records room was closed. That was when I went to the college library and found the newspaper clippingsand sent you copies. I still plan to take the information with me again sometimeto the courthouse. Also, I have discovered that this surname spelling is "Leneave" and not "LaNeave". The latter is how my grandmther spelled it, but on all legal documents I've seen it's spelled the first way. I think, since my grandmother spelled it "LaNeave", that the Edward H. Hammons family (see earlier post) may have passed the misspelling to her and my gr aunt, and to the census taker. In 1900 and 1910 it is spelled "LaNeave", and also in my family bible, in which my mother made the entry. Joe Neagle Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
