State Library where I found the marriage of Rev. James Garden to Sarah Wimbish. The Wimbish family were part of the Briary Church. I believe Sarah's father is listed on the board of trustees.(if that was what it was called) It was begun as the "Church of England" before the Rev. War. but after England lost, it changed to another Protestant group but kept most of the same members. Pat ( Artspeck@aol.com)

Do any ALLEN researchers have any info on her? She was bori in Kanawha Co in 1840, and married Wm C. Davis in Farmville area in 1861. They were there at least until he died in 1870. Together they had operated a "dry-goods" store in Farmville. When her daughter, Lula Belle Davis married John Talley Wright in 1898, she lived with them in Richmond until her death--believed to be around 1918-19. I need info on her parents, and where Anna is buried (supposed to be in Farmville area). I really would appreciate any info that anyone could provide. Thanks, Frank Dean, in MD

He is my paternal ggg grandfather (actually, my paternal gg grandmother's father). I don't suppose you have any information on a title of "major" or "colonel" that was frequently appended to his name? Your information is quite thorough, and evidently well researched, as evidenced by the document records you cite. Many of them I am not familiar with. A couple of entries may contain erroneous information, at least according to my family's version of descendancy. Also, I may be able to provide a name and dates for an "Unknown" you list. According to my records, the "Unknown" female in generation 2 is Elizabeth Agnes Clarke. It was she who married Rev. John Ellis Edwards, my gg grandfather. I don't have an exact birthdate. My references quote 3 different dates: 1809, 1812, and 1814 for her. A third party cites 1809; the Edwards family bible cites 1812, with a correction appended stating 1814 is right. I believe 1812 to be correct, only because it is a more frequently used date in our family. She died in 1898, and I am told is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, next to her husband. Your information about her brothers is very informative, as I have copies of a letter written in 1854 by her husband to 2 of her sons, referencing a visit to "Uncle Howson's" and a message for "Uncle Samuel." Until your message, I hadn't known whether these were Clarkes or Edwardses. In your notes regarding the marriage of "Unknown" (Elizabeth Agnes Clarke) to Rev. John Ellis Edwards, my information has their marriage as May 11, 1838. Your information about their children is incorrect. They had 3 sons: Leroy Summerfield Edwards, 1839-1901; Rev. William Emory Edwards, 1842-1903; and Dr. Landon Brame Edwards, M.D., 1845-1910 (my g grandfather). The entry for Ida Edwards is misplaced. She is the daughter of Rev. William Emory, one of 8 children from his 2 marriages. Ida and an unidentified brother were the progeny from a union with the daughter (unidentified) of a Rev. William Carter, MD (Methodist preacher and doctor) of North Carolina. After his first wife's death, William married Harriet Annie Watts of Norfolk, and they had 6 children: 3 unidentified, and 3 as follows: Rev. William Emory, Jr., 1876-1913; John Ellis, Jr., 1880-1906; and Annie Lou (no dates available). At some point, Ida M. Edwards was living in Dunn, NC, presumably as an adult. Going back to Rev. John Ellis Edwards who married Elizabeth Agnes Clarke....... under your caption "Generation 2," you state that JEE was born abt. 1840. This is obviously incorrect. As is the data about his parents. John Ellis Edwards was born August 1, 1814 in Guilford County, NC. He was the son of Thomas Edwards (1/28/1781 - 9/22/1863) and Susannah Ellis (8/5/1787 - 5/4/1848). They were married January 16, 1806. That union produced 6 other children, in addition to JEE. Rev. John Ellis Edwards was a widely known and highly respected minister in the Methodist church, initially in the North Carolina Conference, but chiefly in the Virginia Conference, thanks I suppose to his wife's roots in Virginia. His son, Rev. William Emory, and grandson, Rev. William Emory, Jr. were both highly respected in the Virginia conference as well. There once was a saying that you couldn't spit in this family without hitting a preacher.

Dear Researchers: I am trying to find if possible a email address for the archive department at the Anson County Court House in North Carolina. My copy of the Red book has the smail address as Green Street, Wadesboro, NC 28170, phone: 704-694-2314. I know the first court house burned in 1868, but I've been told some deeds and other records survived. I am looking for copies of original records related to a Frederick Temples with land records from 1740-1763. He had three sons; James b. 1754, John b. 1755, and Frederick b. 1758(daughters of three or more). We have no marriage date, wife, or parentage. We don't know his origin though there appears to be a relationship with a Laban Temple, David, Peter, and Thedorick, all part of the Virginia Regulars that fought the British in Charleston, SC. On May 29, 1780, Frederick & Laban are killed in the Battle of Buford's Defeat near Waxhaw, SC as stated by Epps Temple. As of this writing, I have not found a Frederick Temples listed any where prior to these land deeds. Judging from his sons ages, he would have been born around 1725-30, but where? A Thomas Temple, son of William, founder of Prince George County, VA Temple's, did have a unnamed son in 1726(from Bristol Parish records). I am even wondering about ships records related to that time and place. Anyone with any clues? Robert Temples

Also, a William Hayes and his wife Elizabeth Dennis were born in about that same place and time. Thanks for your help.

It seems that Tabitha first married a Chapman and then your Basbeach. You may already know this but in the will of James Farley listed are Stephen and Polly Chapman who would be half-siblings of the 3 children you have found. An excert of that post follows: ..James Farley's parents were James Farley II and Sarah Baldwin. James Farley II will is in Prince Edward Co., VA. Will Bk, 4, page 339. Will written: 15 April 1808. He names his wife as Sarah; Children: Son James Farley; dau. Nancy Farley; dau. Martha Farley; dau. Sally Farley Leigh; dau. Elizabeth Farley Shale, (probably Shell); son Henry Farley; dau Mary Farley Holt; son John Farley; dau. Tabitha Farley, md 1st. Chapmam, 2nd Basrbeach. Grandchildren: Sally; Tabitha, James, Polly Gildale; Nancy and Giles Holt, children of Mary Holt. Stephan Chapman and Polly Chapman. James Day, son of Robertson C. Day. Raleigh, John Eliza and Nancy, children of John Farley.... The line I am working on is the John Farley line-Tabitha's brother. I think that John is the 8th and Tabitha is the 9th child of James Farely. John has 3 children-Raleigh Farley is my line- and dies at an early age. If you have any info on John Farley, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Chris

I am new to this list and am looking for the parents of Anderson Nunnelley born 1792 in Prince Edward County. Anderson Nunnelley married Nancy Richardson in 1804 in Kentucky and later Margaret N.N.
