    1. [VAPRINCE] RE: Digital Library Program (fwd)
    2. Mary D. Taffet
    3. Hi all, Here is the reply I just got from the person in charge of the Digital Library Program at the Library of Virginia. I am passing it on to my 4 Virginia county lists and also to VAGEN-L. I have asked her permission to forward this message to you, which she granted. -- Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 22 Oct 2002 12:52:01 -0400 From: Elizabeth Roderick <ERoderick@lva.lib.va.us> To: 'Mary D. Taffet' <mdtaffet@mailbox.syr.edu> Cc: Kip Campbell <KCampbell@lva.lib.va.us> Subject: RE: Digital Library Program Mary - thank you. The Library of Virginia Foundation supports programs at the LVA, and here is some information: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whoweare/support/index.htm We appreciate your concern and support. Elizabeth -----Original Message----- From: Mary D. Taffet [mailto:mdtaffet@mailbox.syr.edu] Sent: Saturday, October 19, 2002 1:12 PM To: eroderick@lva.lib.va.us Subject: Digital Library Program Elizabeth, I am a Rootsweb list administrator for 4 Virginia county lists. One of my subscribers just informed us about the closing of the Digital Library Program, but then wrote back to say that the collections will remain online for the time being. Does the library accept contributions from the public? If so, I imagine that there are a LOT of persons who have personally benefited from the DLP who would be willing to donate funds to the library. The public could probably never make up for the loss of funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia. But allowing the public to contribute financially to a program that they see as very worthwhile might make them feel that they have personally done something to help the situation. Yes, contacting local government officials will also help, but I bet that people would be willing to donate directly to the library as well -- if such contributions are allowed. -- Mary Taffet Rootsweb list admin for Prince Edward, Buckingham and Appomattox Counties Descendant of lots of old Virginia families mdtaffet@syr.edu

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Morton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yBC.2ACI/516 Message Board Post: Josiah Morton stated in his Revolutionary War pension application, made in Caswell County, NC in 1833, that he had been born in Prince Edward County, VA 26 December 1760. Josiah Morton died in Rockingham County, NC in August 1844, leaving at least one son, Azariah Graves Morton. Final Pension Payment papers speak of an "only child" but Census enumerations and other information suggest Josiah Morton had been the father of more than one child. Josiah Morton appears to have moved into Caswell County, NC about 1795. Various on-line sources suggest that extensive records have survived for the Briery Presbyterian Church, which had many Morton members. Can anyone who is familiar with these records provide information about them? I understand there is a Session Book, and may be marriage records?

    3. I have an Armes connection with the Crute family. Nancy Crute (daughter of John Lamkin Crute), b. ca 1788 married Willis Armes on 23 Mar 1820, in Pr Edward Co, VA. Willis may be the son of John Armes and wife Lucretia (surname unknown). Willis died prior to 20 Aug 1821. His will was written 16 May 1821 and recorded 20 Aug 1821 in Prince Edward Co, VA, Will Bk 5, page 538. This is all the info I have on any Armes connections. I haven't really done much research on this line as yet. Dorothy (Crute) Groh
