I live in Southampton NY and have been digging a bit into the family background. In the 1880 census in Philadelphia PA. I found a forebear named James Mickle (3rd great grandfather) who is listed as a retired farmer from Canada who was born in Scotland ca. 1800. He is listed as a widower whose wife was born also in Scotland. He is listed as being 79. His daughter according to that census was Margaret (Mickle) Green married to Albert Green. (Indexors incorrectly transcribe Albert as Albret). Margaret is reported to have been born in Canada. Is there a Mickle family historian who can situate these two Mickles for me in the Scottish family tree? Jon Centner

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Davidson, Davison, Womack, Baker, Pitzer Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yBC.2ACI/584 Message Board Post: Reverend Andrew Baker Davidson (who supposedly married a Susan B. Dorman) is said to be from Rockbridge County, VA and is said to be the son of a William Davidson and a Martha Baker. I had originally thought that a William Davidson of Prince Edward County and a Martha Baker of Prince Edward County had my 4th ggf Baker Davidson, who married Elizabeth "Betsey" Womack in Prince Edward County. This Baker Davidson (whoever his parents actually were) and this Elizabeth "Betsey" Womack Davidson had 5 children (per her Prince Edward County will): Mary "Polly," Lavinia, William, "Jr.," Archer and Baker, "Jr." I have seen an Internet site that claims that the William Davidson who was the father of Reverend Andrew Baker Davidson was from Rockbridge County, not Prince Edward County, but most still claim that the mother was Martha Baker from Prince Edward County, VA (whose parents were Douglas(s) Baker and Jane Thompson Baker). If "my" Baker Davidson was not a son of Martha Baker Davidson of Prince Edward County, then I am at a loss as to who his mother was. To complicate things further, "my" Baker Davidson and his father William (apparently) were in Botetourt County, VA, per the 1794 tax rolls there. In 1820, another relative of theirs also appears in Botetourt County (Elizabeth A. "Betsyan/Betsy Ann" Blanton Davidson). Two of Reverend Davidson's supposed sisters, Charlotte and Ginny "Jane," are said to have been married in Botetourt, so that is another "wierd" connection between these two possibly unrelated families. The Reverend's supposed sister Charlotte Davidson is said to have married a John Pitzer in 1994, and a Capt. John Pitzer, Jr. appears on the original tax roll for the newly formed Alleghany County, VA in 1822, along with a Capt. Baker Davidson! This John Pitzer, Jr. had been the sheriff of Botetourt County at the time. Does anyone have any information on the parents of Rev. Andrew Baker Davidson? What about his siblings (a Baker family site lists him as the only child of William Davidson and Martha Baker Davidson, but other sites, as stated above, show him with several siblings). Any/all help to unravel this confusion between Baker Davidsons would be greatly appreciated.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yBC.2ACI/568.1 Message Board Post: I am not a "Blanton expert," so please take all of the following with a "grain of salt" (i.e., it would need to be independently proven). I understand that something like 20+ members of the Blanton family are buried in Maury Cemetery in Richmond, VA, though there are no headstones/markers for any of them (but the cemetery records show the section/area where they are buried). I guess the Joshua of whom you speak was the son of Richard Blanton (d. abt. 1799-1800) and the brother of William, James, Richard, John, Peggy and Elizabeth? Richard Blanton's father was Thomas Blanton, who suppsedly married Jane McGuffey (Thomas is as far back as I have gone on this family). Unfortunately, I don't have any information on Joshua, other than he seems to be listed in the 1785 Head of Household record for Prince Edward County, VA. His sister Elizabeth Blanton married George Davidson in 1799, and his brother Richard A. Blanton married Elizabeth F. Davidson. Per another source, I'm told that Richard A. and Elizabeth had John Archer Blanton (who married Sarah Ellen Abbott), Mary Ellen Blanton, Elizabeth Blanton, Lucy Blanton and Joseph J. ("JJ") Blanton (who married Alice Mills). I understand that Ann Nancy Blanton (who I think was a daughter of the above Thomas Blanton) had an affair with Abraham Womack, Sr. (who was married to someone else at the time). They had a son Thomas, who used Womack as his last name, and a son Archie/Archer, who used Blanton as his last name. Some have said that the Blanton line from Archie/Archer could call themselves Womack, if they so desired! DNA evidence has now been used to prove this "affair." To compicate things even further, one of the children from this Archie/Archer "Blanton" line later married another Womack! I think that Ann Nancy Womack was a sister to John (who married "Unknown"), William (who married Margaret Moss), Thomas (who married Ann), Elizabeth and Jane. John and "Unknown" had Joel, John, Hannah, Alexander, Rebecca and Vincent. William and Margaret had Isabell and William (who married Hanna Hobbs). William and Hanna had Obediah, Jeremiah, Mary, Reubin, John, Elizabeth, Vincent, Rutha, Joel, A! gnes, Claiborne and Hannah. This is about all I know (and like I said above, it needs to be confirmed). I have been tracking my Davidson family, and came across a connection with the Blantons, Baldwins, Bakers, Womacks and others in Prince Edward County, VA.

    1. [VAPRINCE] Request for info about celebration of 250th anniversary
    2. Mary D. Taffet
    3. Hello subscribers, I have received a request for information which I myself cannot fill as I live far away in Syracuse, NY. I have been asked to supply information about what Prince Edward County will be doing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the county. I personally have no knowledge of what they will be doing, but figured it was worth asking the subscribers of this list if anybody else knows what they might be doing. The person who contacted me is looking specifically for the following kinds of information: -- "What kind of activities is the county doing to celebrate the 250th Anniversary"? -- "What groups or organizations will be participating in the celebration?" -- "I know Fuqua School is participating, but are there any other schools in the area doing activities for the celebration?" And she also asked for any additional information relevant to the 250th anniversary. So, if anybody on the list knows about what is planned, please let me know and I'll pass it along to the person who contacted me. -- Thanks, Mary D. Taffet List Admin for VAPRINCE mdtaffet@syr.edu
