Surnames: Shields, Towler, Roark, Neal, Haley, Tuck, Barbour, Watlington, Updike, Reynolds Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AC.2ACE/1467 Message Board Post: This past spring, my cousins and I spent several days looking for cemeteries in Pittsylvania County and we discovered three cemeteries in the town of Pittsville which had SHIELDS family members buried there. I have added some additional information that I have found in the census’s, books on Pittsylvania County, etc. At this time, I don’t know if this SHIELDS family is related to my SHIELDS family (William SHIELDS who married Nancy FARMER; their son, James SHIELDS who married Sarah “Sally” NEAL; their daughter, Tabitha SHIELDS, my gr-gr grandmother, who married James Edward ROARK). In Tabitha SHIELDS' obituary, it states she was born (1837) and reared in Chalk Level; at the time of her death (1917), she was living near Hurt.
