    1. George COX - Will, 1811
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AC.2ACE/1558 Message Board Post: With all due respect for Gladys Borup who posted her reading of the will of George COX of Pittsylvania Co., VA on the Pittsylvania County Website, I have found in my research that the first child (grown) listed in George's will was NOT Josiah, but "Tinah" (a nickname for "Chastain"). In this will, George excludes "Tinah" from receiving any more of his estate, stating that his "estate (is) to be devided between all my children Excepting my son Tinah Cox who has already received his full part of my Estate.....". In this will, George also names his wife "Patsy" and children Josiah, William, Isham, Thomas, George Jr., Elizabeth, Polly and Sally COX. I have proof that the above "Tinah" was my "Chastain" COX who left Virginia by 1795 and appears in the Mercer Co., KY tax lists in that year and also in 1800-1801 and 1805-1806. Chastain COX obtained a marriage bond to marry Lucinda HUF(F)MAN in Mercer Co., KY on 10 Jul 1802 which included a consent slip from Lucinda's father Teter HUFMAN dated the same day. (Loose Marriage Bonds, Mercer Co., KY) Chastain and Lucinda moved to Barren Co., KY where they appear in the 1820 and 1830 Censuses. Although Chastain was not given any of his father's estate in Pittsvylvania Co., VA, he was evidently eligible to receive something from his brother George Jr.'s estate after George, Jr.'s death which occurred in there the 1820's. On 26 Aug 1825, Chastain COX drew up a Power-of-Attorney to his brother Josiah COX to act in his behalf in the estate of their brother George COX. This POA was filed in both Barren Co., KY and in Pittsylvania Co., VA. (Barren Co., KY. Deed Bk. K: 142-143 and Pittsylvania Co., VA Deed Bk. 41: 20-21) Chastain COX, himself, died in 1837 in Barren Co., KY leaving a will naming his wife, Lucy, and children (but not naming the children. His will shows that some of the children were still under age (Barren Co., KY Will Bk. 3: 124) Respecfully submitted, Dolores C. Rutherford
