Hi, I'm new to the list and I am researching the Dalton side of my family. We believe my ancestor, James Flunory Dalton, born May 21, 1874 in Halifax County, was descended from Alexander Dalton & Sally Irby, who according to the Virginia marriage records were married July 6, 1873 in Pittsylvania County. Our theory is that Alexander was the son of William Dalton and Elizabeth Compton, married Nov. 15, 1842 in Pittsylvania County, and that William was the son of Henry Dalton and Nancy Owen, married July 8, 1818 in Pittsylvania County. However, we have been unable to find any definitive evidence linking the sons to the parents. I would appreciate any information anyone might be able to share, and I am happy to share what I know about James Flunory's lineage. Thanks, Katie
According to the marriage license, parents of Alexander were William and Elizabeth Dalton. Those of Sally were William and Ann Irby. Both the bride and the groom were 21.
