    3. You need to find a library that has a copy of Register of Free Negroes in Pittsylvania Co, VA by Alva H. Griffith, published by Heritage Books, Inc., 2001. On pages 21-24 there are entries for your family. "B. Roberts - Virginia, Pittsylvania County to wit - No. 73 - At the instance of John Ward and Lynch Dillard, executors of the last will and testament of John Ward, Sr. Decd. duly proven and recorded in the Court of the said County BETSY ROBERTS a girl of colour emancipated by the said will was this day numbered and registered (as a free person of color and given a certificate to show such to prevent her being picked up as a runaway) in the Clerk's office of the said Court, pursuant to the provisions of the act of Assembly in that case made and provided - The said BETSY ROBERTS is a child of PLEASANT and HANAH & is of a rather light complexion, said to be seventeen years old, five feet four and a fourth inches high, has a small scar under the left jaw occasioned by a burn, her forefinger on the right hand crooked at the last or nail joint. Given under my hand as Clerk of the said Court this 5th day of January 1827. Will. Tunstall" The same kind of entry complete with descriptions are given for these additional children of PLEASANT and HANNAH ROBERTS: ELVY, 16 year old daughter PAULINA, 14 year old daughter LAURA, 13 year old daughter PENELOPE, 10 year old daughter CHARLES, 8 year old son JOHN, 3 year old son Entry for PLEASANT ROBERTS shows him as 38 years old as of 25 Dec 1826 and also gives physical description. Entry for HANNAH ROBERTS designates her as 33 year old wife of PLEASANT ROBERTS and also gives a physical description. What I would give to have such a record from 1827 for any of my ancestors!!! If you can't find the book in a library, you should contact the Heritage Books, Inc. to buy a copy of such valuable material. The address of the company is 1540E Pointer Ridge Place, Bowie, MD 20718 (1-800-398-7708) htt[://www.heritagebooks.com All above info from book cover 2001. Hope this makes your day! They migrated to Lawrence County, Ohio in 1827. They were bi-racial, mixed with which races I do not know. The husband was named Pleasant Roberts, born Christmas Day, 1789, his wife was Hannah, (maiden name unknown), born in 1794. They were the parents of 7 children: > Betsey/Elizabeth > Elvy > Paulina > Laura > Penelope > Charles > John > I am ultimately searching for the parents names of both Pleasant and Hannah, but also looking to share information and connect with anyone else researching the same. > Happy holidays! > Jess. > > > > --------------------------------- > Get easy, one-click access to your favorites.
