There were parts of the Amherst County Monacan tribe in this area, plus the area along present day US 29 was a Seminole path from northern areas to what is now Florida during their hunting expeditions. There may be other connections of which I am unaware. You could contact the Monacan Indian Museum in Amherst Co for additional info. I do not know an address, but I am sure they are available on Internet through a search engine, as they are one of the tribes attempting to gain federal recognition.
