His daughter, Motie b. 1875 was the second wife of my g-grandfather, James T. Shaw. They married in 1896 in Halifax County. I have the marriage license on which it states that her father was Champ Epperson and her mother was Coley Epperson. I do know that she had a younger sister, Molly who died at about age 23 and a brother called John C. Epperson. Family legend has it that Champ walked out on the family leaving Coley to raise the children (there may have been more). Coley was born in 1849...so my Champ was probably born in the 1840's...but I haven't been able to spot him on any of the census. Perhaps my Champ and your Champ were cousins??
