She was born in 1801 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. She married James W. King in 1824. All of Thomas and Obedience's children were mentioned in Thomas' Will: Thomas, Ezekiel, Isaac, Salley, William, Joseph, John and Elizabeth. It is generally believed (but not proven with hard evidence) that Obedience (the elder) was the daughter of William East, of Charlotte Co., Virginia. I have seen a reference in the East Marriage Records - Virginia transcribed by Ernest L. East, of a "Biddy" East. This is what the record states: Date: 1790-09-01 Husband: John Harper Wife: Biddy East Daniel Bates (sur.) County: Halifax I suggest you seek further information in Halifax County, which is next to Pittsylvania Co. Good luck! C.E.
