Philip Southerland is found on the Pittsy Co. Tax List for 1767. He had purchased land in Halifax Co. (parent Co. of Pittsy Co.) in 1765. I recently came into possession of letters written by great grand children that say, "Philip, Sr. of Va. had letters & grants from James Southerland his father of the Orkney Islands". The Orkney Islands are off the NE coast of Scotland. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find the letters & grants?
