I often see notes on this list saying that the person was told they have indian ancestry, or some version of this. This is not surprising, as there must have been a lot of mixing. I am on at several indian mailing lists, and am constantly amazed at the surnames mentioned by Native Americans wanting help finding ancestors. A lot of the names are straight from TN and VA and are mentioned often on this list. This should not be surprising as most came from the East. In looking for indian roots for my own ancestors, I have accumulated a fair amount of info, and a lot of bookmarks to informative sites regarding indian research.
