I wonder if a time map of the area might help in this case. In my own, I have speculated and speculated about some ancestors who were in Pittsylvania co, Va, at some point and then moved to Lunenburg co., VA, when all along it was the county lines that shifted as new counties were created. I would certainly like to purchase a map of Virginia for all its many transformations.
