    3. Hi Karen, Thanks for your newsy response. A few questions... > Please be aware that some of the descendants of John Shelton and Elizabeth > don't agree that John is John II. april Mille's book follows some old > research that says that John Shelton was the son of John Shelton died in > 1778 in MEcklenburg, while visiting his sister. IN fact, that sister, > Catherine Shelton Blakey, had died not long after her marriage to Blakey in > Middlesex Co VA. Do you have death date for Catherine Shelton Blakey? > They may have been part of the larger Shelton family, but when Mark moved to > pittsylvania in abt 1780, he's seen as Mark Chilton and goes by that until > quite a bit later. Then later went by Shelton? instead of Chilton? I am aware that there are errors mixing the Chilton and Shelton lines. Also aware that some Chiltons later changed to Shelton. > John Shelton has been misidentified as a son of John and > brother to Mark, even though John Shelton (Chilton) of Mecklenburg Co makes > no mention of a son John. I have a copy of will of John Shelton stating "In the name of God amen I John Shelton, Senr. of the parish of Saint James in the County of Mecklenburg" dated 18th day of November 1777 and "signed sealed published & declared before us" A. Clack R. Munford Elizabeth Munford Tignal Jones, Junr. Thomas x Pdtchett Nathan Tate John x Shelton mark Problem: you can't be a witness to your own will. Have death date for John Shelton II as November 26, 1801, married Mary Payne March 19, 1800 Grainger County, Tennessee. BUT: 3 children listed for the John Shelton II cannot be correct-Lettice Shelton b.1763,William Shelton b.1766, Lucy Shelton b.1768-if John Shelton II birth date is 1765. I believe these 3 are children of John Shelton Senior. > JUST FYI if you are descended from John. No, just want my files accurate. I descend from Crispin Shelton, then Gabriel. > Who Mark is and his relationship to the family remains a mystery. Again referring to will of John Shelton: In the name of God amen I John Shelton, Senr. of the parish of Saint James in the County of Mecklenburg being in perfect health & of sound & disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament first I resign my soul into the hands of almighty God hoping for a joyful Resurrection in the merits of my savior Christ Jesus & my Body I commit to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner. Item I give and bequeath the land whereon I now live to my son Mark SheIton to him and his heirs forever-paying such just debts as I may owe at the time of my Decease In case my said son should not comply with the above most reasonable condition then I give the said land to my Grandson William SheIton son of Mark to him and his heirs for ever. Item I appoint my son Mark SheIton the sole executor of this my last will and testament and revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made I do declare this to be my last In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 18th day of November 1777 signed sealed published) & declared before us A. Clack R. Munford Elizabeth Munford Tignal Jones, Junr. Thomas x Pdtchett Nathan Tate John x Shelton mark Seems we might (again!) have a mix up on the Shelton and Chilton lines. Any input you have is greatly appreciated! And Thanks again, Jan Shelton Nixon
