Chris, I found two references to a John Maddox in the War of 1812 on the Virginia Library digital site.....URL < http://www.lva.Lib.va.us/dlp/index.htm> go to military history, ask for name search , type in Maddox, then keep hitting the blue lines or numbers for your guy. It tells you the references for John Maddox, don't know if this is your guy or not. Don't forget to check the newspaper sites for deaths and marriages. This is the best VA research site on the net. You can spend days on it, when a site says you must have a TIFF to read, if you have Adobe Acrobat, you have a TIFF. If you click to documents, when the locked computer comes up, click read on this page. Use your back arrow to go back and forth, make sure you click read on this page now, each time.....Have fun, even a beginner computer user like me, hasn't gotten in trouble, just experiment....
