Hello, I'm working on the family of John & Tabitha (Shelton) Rickabaugh of Pittsylvania Co., VA and Gallia Co., OH. I believe John is the s/o John & Elizabeth (Griffith) Rickabaugh. Tabitha is almost certainly related to the family of Claiborne & Saluda (Mustain) Shelton...but I've yet to determine the exact connection. Ellet Notes for Tabitha SHELTON There is no substantial proof that Tabitha is the daughter of Claiborne and Saluda...just circumstantial evidence. >From a typewritten sheet received from Margaret Alford we find only four marriages of persons surname SHELTON marrying in Gallia Co., OH during the time frame of 1800-1820. These marriages are: Henly to Hannah RICE, Jesse to Peggy BLAKE, John to Kitty MOSSBARGER, and Tabitha to John RICKABAUGH. Henly, Jesse, and John are all known children of Claiborne and Saluda. The next marriage in chronological order belongs to Thomas and Polly CARTER ...another know child of Claiborne and Saluda. Strong circumstantial evidence that Tabitha...the only other SHELTON married in this county...is their sister. This SHELTON family appears to be the only one residing there in this time frame. It has also been hypothesized that Tabitha was the daughter Jesse Mustain and his second wife Polly Brewis. They were married in 1793...and Jesse died in June 1794. It would be likely that an infant would be adopted by her aunt and uncle. Beneath the same roof she was born November 8, 1870; and here she had grown up to womanhood. She finished her education at the Lakeport Academy, and then taught for a time in our public schools. She married George Walter [sic] WAITE January 15, 1894, and to them were born three children. For two or three years past she had not been well, but few thought of her case as dangerous till she neared the end of her life. Hello, Sue. I am a fellow researcher of Claiborne and Seluda Mustain Shelton. I can't tell you how Tabitha Shelton Rickabaugh is related except for the clue that Seluda had a sister Tabitha. The only children I have documented for Claiborne and Seluda are Joel, Henley (my ancestor), John, Jesse, Betsy, Thomas, Rosetta, Saluda and William. Laura King
