    3. Saw your note to Jane. Here's will of John Shelton, my GGGGgrandfather, b. 1722 Middlesex Co VA d. 1804 Pittsylvania Co VA. I know that's different than April Miller's book but I have good reason's for believing John is the son of Ralph and Mary Crispin Shelton, and that son didn't die in Mecklenburg Co VA. Francis Payne was the grandaughter of John Shelton, by his daughter, Fannie who had married Thomas Payne. Problem is, which Thomas Payne. That remains a mystery to me. Fannie was dec'd before the writing of the will in 1801 and the granddaughter was old enough to be married to Tunstall Shelton, her cousin.. I believe Fannie and my Jane Shelton Lewis, wife of William Lewis (m. in Amelia)b. 1756 in Amelia Co VA ? d. 17 jul 1821 Pittsylvania Co (obit states she was 65 years old in 1821, are the oldest two of John's children. They may be by a different wife than the Elizabeth, or Elizabeth had a lot of children over a long period of years. I think there were two wives for John Shelton and that's why the kids appear to be treated differently in the will, with the older daughters already taken care of and the younger inheriting what he had for an estate in 1801. In any case, I can prove who the grandfather of Francis who married Tunstall Shelton was...John Shelton. Deeds and Wills Bk 11 p 269-270 26 Nov 1801 Pr 18 Jun 1804 LWT John Shelton in tolerable good health and sound mind and of disposing memory. to my son Abraham Shelton all my tract of land I now live To my daughter Jane Lewis one dollar To my grand daughter FRANCIS SHELTON, wife of Tunstall Shelton fifty cents To my daughter Mary Poore $50.00 I lend to my chlldren hereafter named and thier heirs my negroes to be equally divided: William Shelton, Joel Shelton, Claiborne Shelton, Abraham Shelton, Francis Shelton, Martha Tucker, Charlotte Shelton, Nancy White, Lucy Hunt, Lettice Shelton.
