pg. 430 of Meet Your Ancestors by Bowling: "Joseph Fuller, the son of Brittain and Nancy (Jackson) Fuller, was 76 years old in 1860, therefore, born in 1894. This is one reason for being sure he is the true Joseph, son of Brittain Fuller, who had a son born before 1785, according to the tax list that year. In 1860 he was living in Swansonville section of Pittsylvania Co., Va. He was living alone with a claim of 100 dollars worth of personal property. When he was a young man, he was associated with the Pittsylvania Co., Va. militia. On Oct. 22, 1805, Joseph Fuller "Qualified as Lieutenent in the Military in Pittsylvania County, Va." (See Book 11, page 484). His father deeded him 165 acres of land on Turkey Cock Creek on February 1, 1817. (D.B. No 20, p. 367, Pitts. Co., Va.) No sale of this land was found. Likewise, a Joseph Fuller and Polly Hanks were issued a marriage license on Nov. 3, 1828. They were married by Rev. Richard B. Peck on Nov. 7, 1829. Langley B. Chrowder was his surety. Thomas Hanks Sr. gave his consent. (p. 91, Pitts. Co., Mar. Reg). No evidence was found to prove this Joseph was Brittain Fuller's son or that he had any descendants. Marriage was recorded under Minister's Returns, Pitts. Co., Va. If there are descendants, they have these records to use or eliminate." Hope this helps.
