    1. [VAPITTSY-L] Apology for confusion over Poorhouse Records posting
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. I would just like to apologize for any confusion which my earlier post created. Apparently I did not make it clear that I was not the owner of those poorhouse documents for Pittsylvania County. In retrospect I can understand how it would have been better to submit the post to the list administrator for approval before posting it. (Perhaps the list owner could have realized what I did not ... that my motive might be suspect ... and suggested that I clarify things.) I am NOT the owner of the document. I volunteer (literally) over 100 hours a month to maintain a non-profit website for the preservation of poorhouse information. I discovered that the document was up for sale on eBay late last night during my routine monitoring of that site for such historically valuable documents. I then spent several hours researching who to contact (and e-mailing several people and two e-mail lists -- VAROOTS and VAPITSY) in an effort to save these documents. I personally cannot GIVE the document to the archives because I don't own it; I cannot purchase it because I try to act in the interests of the preservation of poorhouse records in all 50 states and do not have funds to do so. A reader did direct me to the appropriate person in the Virginia State Library archives; and they are now making every attempt to acquire the document for the public historical record. Again, I apologize for any confusion. Sincerely, Linda Crannell http://www.poorhousestory.com
