Pittsylvania Co records show the marriage of Redmond Adams and Mary Polly Grigsby, daughter of Moses Grigsby. Looking at Ancestry.com's "Member Trees," I see that someone in Moses' family married a "Jane Redmond"!! I can't help wonder if there is a connection, since "Redmond" certainly is a different first name! I would love to have discovered a will for Redmond Adams, listing his children. The deed book did indicate that he had land at Shockoe, Pittsylvania Co. Maybe this will help you a little!! However, since it has been over 2 years since your message to which I am replying, perhaps you can share with me what you have learned since then and we can "compare notes" ! Carole caroledbryant@aol.com I have a Redmond Carter Adams (Sep 1852[Virginia]-unk) who m. Damacia Catherine East (18 Apr 1856[Pitt- sylvania Co., VA]-unk) on 21 Jan 1873 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. The first time I tried to post it the system advised there was an error while posting, so I tried again. It was so long, sorry about that. Actually the one you found with Hazel is the correct one. How does one search for births for male children in public records if you have nothing specific? Aren't birth records more difficult to get or have more stringent reqirements to get? Can I actually go to the records office and ask for just male Knick children in certain time frames over multiple years? I know that her daughters were born between 1950 and 1955 and we believe she was actually sterlized immediately after her youngest daughter was born in '55 because her children were all out of wedlock and she was found to have "deficiancies". Two of her daughters were in foster care just about their whole childhood, the third and youngest daughter was adopted shortly after birth in 1955. The youngest daughter is my contact in the area. I have read whatever paperwork she has gotten from the state without a court order ( thus nonidentifying)and nothing indicates any other children that the state was aware of when they took custody of the girls, supposedly shortly after this accident. It appears the male child must have been placed somewhere prior to 1955. Her daughter said there was a newspaper clipping of the accident and they believe it was Dec 1951, but the clipping disappeared and the paper says they can't find anything about it in that area of time. They said there were several men in the car and Hazel was seriously injured and one man was thrown up against her and he died. In trying to search the daughter's memories from twenty years ago one man may have had the surname Bray, but that's all I have. Just about every original adult involved in this case is gone now. We are working from scratch. Hazel left this world in 2000. We are possibly related paternally and I have family in that area but I grew up away from the area. Her daughters did not find my branch of the family until 2006 though I had been searching for them since the late 80's again thanks to the article in the Danville Register-Bee. It was actually thanks to a military museum that they found my father before we could find them and through him me. One of Hazel's sisters-in-law was my father's aunt. I am the budding family genealogist. Due to some family issues related to illegitimacy we are trying to conduct our search as sensitively as we can and wish to try to locate as much as we can on our own without having to pressure other family members understandably. I had a relative down there try to contact them but so far we have all (the paper employees as well, so far)had no luck especially since not having any specific date. My relative tried searching microfilm and it was just too much for her going through it all to locate at this point, especially since we know very little as to exact dates. She tried the best she could to help me but we don't have a lot to go on right now. We just know that a "Knick" woman was seriously injured and a man died in the accident and that there may have been another man or two in the vehicle and we don't know if they survived. We don't know if it was a single vehicle but we think it may have been. We think they may have been coming eastbound from the Martinsville area. The woman in the vehicle is no longer alive and no one right now seems to remember specifics. We found an old medical reference to the woman's past injuries from the accident. It was sometime between 1950 & 1955 as our broadest guess. My relative thinks it should have been cooler weather around 1950-52. We can't find anything yet in the time frame everyone first thought it would have been. Some relatives thought it might have been around Christmas time 1951-52. My Daddy remembers hearing about it and when I made a very quick emergency trip down recently he tried to show me where he had been show that it was when he was a kid. He seemed to think it was closer to Callahan's Hill from Brosville west of Danville limits. I guess I will just have to wait until I can get out of both school and work long enough to investigate it myself. I love finding needles in haystacks and I think this is what it is going to take. The paper and library have limited personnel resources so we will need to get as much as we can on our own first. I was hoping that if someone tragically lost a family member in that time frame they would not forget it. This accident is very important to establish a time line to help pin down a search area for a reported lost family member who may have been adopted, possibly illegally and may not know it. We again have nothing other than it was supposed to have been a male child from the Danville-Pittsylvania-Henry area in the very last of the 1940's to around mid 1950's. He may have had blonde hair from an unidentified picture that someone remembers from over twenty years ago, of course that picture is lost to us now, as are those who might have had the knowledge we seek. Stories have that the child was very sick and may have been given up to receive medical care some how. It is sad, we have practically nothing to go on at this point, except that three separate and independent indivduals have mentioned this male child's existance over the last 50 years at various times, but when questioned further no one knows anything further. One mention was as recently as this Fourth of July. This unknown male child was reportedly born to a Hazel Knick and has a sister who is sincerely and painfully searching for him or signs of his existence. She has searched before and found other sisters, now they want to find out if this rumored brother ever existed. The paper tried to help her locate her other parent many years ago, that article is what started my search for her, but right now I don't think we have enough for them to help yet. Even if she never knows her father, she wants to find any misisng siblings before they get too old to find each other. I am also looking for anyone who might remember any. I am particularlly interested in the area of Callahan's Hill, Westover or Brosville. There is one that may have had multiple victims with some survivors that may have occured b/t Dec 1950-51 to Feb 1951-52. Am also looking for any connections to the Bray, Riddle, or Knick families. Am also interested in cases where multiple family members may be involved. Since I am unable to do much traveling at this time, I am hoping that maybe eventually I may find some online connections to help my search. Where would records of things from these "in between time ranges" be archived? They are not the usual time period for a large portion of genealogical searchers. Also if anyone is familiar with any domestic violence murders or murder/suicides between Danville & Martinsville areas this may a! lso be of additional help. I know these are not the nice types of information to be looking for but they are just dots in a bigger puzzle I am working on.
