Diane Popek in "Tracks Along the Staunton" says Bean sold all his property to a Mr. Payne in 1764 and moved to Tennessee or somewhere in the South. In the first List of Titheables for Pittsylvania County Virginia taken in 1767, "William Bean, son William, land" and "John Been, Jun" were listed by Peter Perkins. *Footprints From The Old Survey Books of Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties in Virginia 1746-1840 by Roger C. Dodson, published by the Pittsylvania Historical Society: Beens Creek flows into the Dan River or to Moberly Creek, Grid 12-A. It is in the far southwest Corner of Pittsylvania County. I'm not *positive* he married in Halifax County...but JACKSON SHAW was living there in the 1850 census as an 18 year old farm laborer. If not Halifax...then Pittsylvania for sure. And he could have married as JAMES J. SHAW. 2. I don't have any prove of his wife's name...but legend has it it could have been Sallie. Their son, James T. Shaw was born in 1862 and there *could* have been an older daughter called Ida. Jackson kept going AWOL from the war and after three children went back and was never heard from again. Thanks once again and I'll look forward to hearing back from you after your trip to the courthouse. Best wishes....mary lou Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [VAPITTSY] For Carole Bryant
    2. Hi Carole....I'm taking a chance that you are subscribed to this list, as I had trouble connecting to the gatewayed list. I would love it if you could see if you can find anything on my SHAW marriage when you go to the courthouse!! I'm 98% sure that they married in Halifax County, as I have found JACKSON SHAW as an 18 year old, single, farm laborer in the 1850 census of Halifax County. If not Halifax County....then Pittsylvania for sure. I've no idea what his wife's name was....this is one of the things I'm trying to determine (perhaps Sallie??). He also could have been going by JAMES J. SHAW too, and they had a child called JAMES T. SHAW in 1862 in Halifax County. Family legend has it that they had three children altogether as he kept going AWOL from the war....after the third child he was never heard from again. Another of the children may have been a daughter called Ida....but that is unsubstantiated. Thanks a million......mary lou ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

I thought that I might "google" such a strange name as "Ottoneser" but nothing came up. I went to Heritage Quest to find out more and can't find them there. Tell me a little more about them, ages of her parents, where you found them, race, etc. and maybe I can find something for you. I was looking for a white family but if they are black, let me know that. Most "Overby" folks spelling their name without an "e" between the "b" and "y" were from North Carolina, according to most of my findings. Whatever the case I will be more than glad to help if I can. Look up Elizabeth Holt in the 1850 census for Henry Co. You will see that she is living with William/Wilson and Clarissy Jones in a large family group. she is 80. there is also Cynthia Haizlip who is 65 in the household. There are some Haizlips descending from George F. Harris and Peter M. Harris I think. I am from Chatham and have a connection by way of Daniel W. Jones who married Cynthia Harris daughter of Peter. Buckner Jones lived in Henry County, VA, then in the 1830 census he was found living in Rockingham Co., NC. I believe that Fielding Jones (son of Buckner) married Lucinda Parish, 14 Apr 1836 in Person Co., NC which is 2 counties over from Rockingham. The Will of Mosias Jones was probated on Probated October 17, 1796 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. I would be interested to find out if your Wilson/William Jones is the son of Buckner Jones. I am curious on who Clarissa Holt would be since my Pascal Holt married Rachel Wilson Jones (daughter of Buckner Jones & Eleanor Wilson). The HOLT, JONES & WILSON are my direct bloodlines. 3. Shirley, It appears you tried to send your response directly to gc-gateway@rootsweb.com, which is simply the pipeline between the RootsWeb Pittsylvania Message Board and this mailing list. Messages on this mailing list that appear to originate from the above e-mail address are actually posts to the message board. If you'd like to respond to those types of messages, it's best to post it on the message board so that it forwards here. You may of course post your response directly to the mailing list, but there's no guarantee that your intended recipient will read it because they may not be subscribed. Hope this helps.
