Enjoyed visiting Danny Ricketts websites. Am native of Pittsylvania County, VA - born in Danville, both of parents families from Sandy Level area. Started gathering family branches and quickly found lots of interwoven connections throughout the family twigs. >From Danny's site, he states he married into the Barbour family....."On March 29, 1968, he married Nancye Yvonne Barbour (born November 6,1948, the daughter of Ray Edwin Barbour and Ruby Mae Gusler Barbour)". Very interested, as maiden name is Barbour. Walter Daniel Barbour married to Gillie Frances Arthur were my g-grandparents, son Curgie Daniel Barbour married to Julia Ann Virginia Mitchell were my grandparents. Searching for possible connections. Deborah Barbour Nanni

I haven't heard of the name Ricketts since I was in grammar school in Norfolk, VA during the 2nd World War. Miss Ricketts was my teacher and I still remember her with kind regard. I remember that she and her mother delivered presents to the entire class for Christmas that year. She was probably in her late thirties or early forties back when I knew her. Do you have any idea who she was? "by way of Jeannie " wrote: > Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > > Does any one know how to contact Danny Ricketts? I understand he has done a > Ricketts search. I have lost touch with Richard Bromley who was doing wonderful research into the PAYNE family. Somehow I didn't get his e-mail attached to this note. So, if Richard if you are on this list, please let me know how your research is going and send me your e-dress. In any event, here is what I have from him concerning my 5Ggrandfather William PAYNE and his progeny. "FROM Richard Bromley yes I have seen the will of William Payne of Pittsylvania Co. with wife Sarah Nance and he is from the Thomas Payne -Jane Bush connection but no real proof he was the son of Jane vs Catherine. He list no son named Thomas in his will. While he does list other sons. The Thomas who I believe married Yanaka Ayers lived in Halifax Co. and he and Yanaka sold some land before they moved. He did not live near William and Sarah Nance. He lived near the William and wife Ruth who lived and died in Halifax Co. Those two Thomas and William were brothers and came from Hanover Co. While the other William of Pittsylvania was from the Essex Co. family. The son Thomas of Thomas and Catherine Payne lived and died in Charlotte Co., at least that seems to be the current belief. There was also a John who had a son William stilled as Jr. who was mentioned in the William and Ruth will of 1771 Halifax Co. These are the families that went to Georgia I believe. There is scant real proof for any of the John, William, Thomas Paynes in that area from 1750-1780s. There was at least three different families of Paynes in the area plus two or three more from Bedford Co. later Franklin Co. Hope all this helps you a little." and later "FROM Richard BROMLEY, This William would be the son of Jane Bush and Thomas Payne Sr. of Essex Co., VA. He is not listed in the Middlesex Co., VA Christ Church Parish register as is some of Thomas' earlier children. But reading the will of Thomas it is apparent that William and Philemon are his two youngest sons and from Jane Bush his second wife. This being the case William would have been born about 9-18 months after Jane's marriage to Thomas. The death date for Thomas' first wife Catherine Lydford is unknown as is the wedding date of Jane Bush and Thomas. But based on the ages of William's children and their marriage dates, I estimate William's birth date at about 1743 and his marriage date about 1762, him being the average age of 19. I found no records of William Payne in Amelia Co. but it is known that his older brothers Thomas and John and a Reuben were in Amelia Co. since at least 1750s. This William was most likely the William Payne listed in the first Pittsylvania County Tithables list for 1767."
Hello List Members, I remember some time back there were several web sites which could be used to locate people by either their ss#, or by name. I know I have it here somewhere, but don't know in which " pile " of papers. If someone possibly has knowledge of the ss# index I would be most thnakful if you could send it to me. You can e-mail privately if you like,of course it could also help some of the newer researchers. Thanks, Richard rhgen@aol.com

Nancy and Gabriel resided just over the border in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, on the Dan River, where they raised their nine children along with four more from Gabriel's first marriage. Gabriel's first marriage was to Mary Durrett (m. 18 Jan 1765 in Caroline County, Virginia). That marriage produced four children before Mary died in February 1774. Fred Naef

It is supposed to be found in Deeds and Wills Book 11, November 14, 1819, Probated December 20, 1819, pp. 527-528)? Does a will even exist for Thomas' sometimes-alleged father William Payne (d. 1818, wife Sarah Nance)? Thank you.
Looking for any GORRELLS especially around 1910-1920.
Dear Subscribers, I realized something else about the GenConnect "gateway" I spoke of in my last post. The gateway allows persons who are not necessarily subscribers to VAPITTSY to post notes to the GenConnect board and thereby reach the VAPITTSY mailing list automatically. Because of this, if we respond to one of these forwarded notes by responding to the list exclusively, we may not reach the person for whom the response was originally intended. So, we should send a CC: directly to the original author of the GenConnect post. This also opens up other issues for me as the listowner. Tom [listowner, VAPITTSY]
