I always seem to get duplicate copies of this newsletter. One is enough. Thanks.
I want to thank everyone who has helped me on Johnny Potts. This is a wonderful reply that you all are making to my email for help. Thank you so much, Diane Jones
Lilian, Could you please e-mail your list to me? Archie Holmes
Hello again Everyone. All the books have sold. Thank you all so much for your responses and I wish you the best of luck with your research. I have enjoyed getting to know you all and will miss you. You're a great bunch. Best regards. Lilian
Update on books. All have now sold with the exception of "Rocks of Ages" an excellent book put together by Gary Denton Norris. It has 395 pages of birth and death dates of people from Clinton County, KY--and some Cumberland County--and also lists many next of kin and cemetery. It costs $50.00 new and is well worth the $25.00 I am asking for it. First response gets it. Lilian
Hi Listers, Just wanted to bring you up to date on the books. Only three left and none of them are about Pittsylvania County. I still have one on burial sites in Clinton& Cumberland County,KY; The Handybook for Genealogist, and The Genealogist's Companion. All well worth the price I am asking for them. Again, write me privately if you are interested in any of these. Thanks Lilian mbowen@adelphia.net
You will want to look at: "Edward and Mary Wade of Virginia," Va-Nc Piedmont Genealogy Society, Vol. 3, 1981, pp 106-111. Edward Wade left Pittsylvania with Nowlin and Stephen Senter and spent some time in Sullivan County TN in the 1780s. Nowlin returned to Pittsylvania, but Edward and Mary (probably Mary Clement) migrated to Greene County GA where he died in 1790. He may have also lived for a bit in Pendleton County SC. ---------------------- James F. I anyone doing research on the SHELTONS and/or CAMPBELLS of Pittsylvania County? William Shelton married Mary Ann Campbell who was a sister to William Campbell. Both of these Williams made a trip to Greene Co. Illinois in 1825 along with their nephews, John and Christopher H. CLARK. The Clark family moved to Greene Co., the following year. I don't know if the William Shelton and William Campbell families moved there. Would like to know what happened to them. Thanks. CJ
Cherie, the 1930 census of Pittsy and Danville should show your ancestor and his siblings in the household of the parents. Marriage records from that area should also be revealing. SWANN and LEWIS are both very early families of Southside Virginia. Birth records may also be available for the 1920 time period. If you can bridge this relatively late time period back through the 1900 and 1880 censuses, I'm betting there are SWANN and LEWIS researchers that can help regards, Margie Brown
Posted on: Pittsylvania Co. Va Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania?read=64 Surname: WADE, NOWLIN ------------------------- I am searching for information on Ed Wade of Pittsylvania Co VA. He is the father of Lucy Wade who married Bryan Ward Nowlin I ca 1764. She was born 11 Nov 1746 and died in Pittsylvania Co in 1789. They had the following children: Elizabeth (married Joseph Deven), Peyton (married Lucy Townsend), Bryan Ward II (married Elizabeth Townsend), Lucy, Susanna, James, David, (married Mary Jones and the Widow Bates), Mary "Polly" (married James Mahan), Richard Wade (married Celia Skelton), and Catherine (maried James Berger) There are two Ed. Wade's listed in the DAR Patriot Index. Is he either? Link: Oak Cottage URL: <http://www.mesh.net/~pituso>
I'm looking for any information about my paternal line SWANN--my parents were divorced when I was an infant and I never knew my father or any of his family. His name is/was William Jackson --aka Jack--SWANN; his father's name was James SWANN and his mother's name was Sue LEWIS. According to Jack and my mother's marriage license (they were married and divorced in Cleveland, Ohio, where I was born) he was born in Danville, VA--and since no date was entered but an age was I'm guessing 1924 or late 1923. There was an older sister (married to somebody in Richmond-??) and possibly a brother possibly killed in WWII. James SWANN, my grandfather, may have been a dentist in the 1920s and 1930s in Danville--does anybody know how I would go about tracking down that kind of information? It would appear that LEWIS is more commonly found in the Pittsylvania Co. area; maybe one of the Lewis family members might know of some mention of a Sue (Susan? Susannah?) LEWIS who married a SWANN, maybe in the 19teens. Any information and help would be much appreciated, and, in fact, I am as interested in tracing the LEWIS line as I am in tracing the SWANN line. Thank you. Cherie Brumfield cwbrum@aol.com
I am still trying to locate any information on a Johnny Potts. I know found out he went to Danville in or around 1963-1964 to work for Liggett and Myers. I also know he was in Richmond in the year of 1962-1963-1964. I believe he was also married at this time to. Today if he is still living , he maybe in his 60's or 70's. Does anyone know of him? or maybe how I can find information on him? Work records or something, that may tell more about him like DOB, POB, living address, next of kin, just anything. Maybe even a 1964 telephone book to see if he is listed in it. Then again he may have lived in the surrounding communities around Danville. Any help on this would be great appresheaded Diane Jones
Hi Mary, When was he born and was he born in Pittsylvania Co? One member of my Clark family, supposedly born in Pittsylvania Co. was Alfred P. Clark. He was raised in Smith Co., TN but was very elusive. He died in Smith Co. and some of his children married in Wilson and Smith Co. An old gentleman and relative told my father in 1954 that Alfred lived in Simpson Co., KY for many years. Haven't been able to prove it. Thanks to everyone who responded. I try to address all the comments here. 1. I also had her name as Mary Ann until I found the obituary. Perhaps her name is Mary Ann Elizabeth. 2. I expected a couple of different answers to who her parents were, but I didn't expect the answers I got. That's what makes this so interesting. Several of you listed her father as Coleman D. Bennett. I think Coleman is too young to be the father of Mary Ann (Elizabeth). I had Coleman listed as her brother. Mary Ann's birthdate is around 1815. 3. I had her parents listed as Richard Bennett and Asenath Dalton. But this came from a WFT file and is not documented. It could easily be incorrect. However, all the information from Mary Ann down (except perhaps her middle name) seems to hold up. Some asked how I am descended from Captain Yeatts. Here is my line. Captain Yeatts had a son named John Richard Yeatts, Jr. who married Mary Frances Reynolds. Among their children was Lucille Yeatts, my grandmother. Lucille married Ernest Linwood Bennett and had 5 children, one of them William (Bill) Jennings Bennett, my father. Both my grandparents died earlier this year in Ringgold. There were two boxes of genealogical information among my grandmothers possesions. That is how I came upon the obituary. There are also some handwritten notes made by Ernest Yeatts, my grandmothers brother. Don Bennett

I have a 1925 obituary of my gg-grandfather John Richard Yeatts, Sr. It names his parents as Mary Elizabeth Bennett and Willis Christopher Yeatts. Does anyone know who the parents of Mary Elizabeth Bennett are? Don Bennett
Interested in the Sheltons from Pittsylvania. My line goes back to Crispin. Gabriel, and Wyatt, who left and came to KY around 1807/08. Any information will be appreciated. I have a copy of April Miller's book 'Shelton County'; and appreciate all her work and effort. Always looking for more..... Jan Shelton Nixon
My Clark line seems to end in Pittsylvania Co. According to information handed down in the family, Peter H. Clark arrived in this county as a young man. He married there to Elizabeth Campbell in 1803 - was mentioned in the will of William Mitchell and was administrator of his father-in-law's (John Campbell) in 1825. There were other Clarks living in the county at the same time, but we have not been able to tie him to any of them - as of yet. I have wondered about the possibility of William Mitchell's wife being related to Peter . Anyone doing research on any Clarks or Mitchells in the county? Thanks.
