There was NO PITTSYLVANIA CO until 1767; There were very few settlers this far west in the state until a bout1742 after the colony began to give land and tax breaks for people to settle this area. In 1730, this area would have been Prince George Co (records burned). MaryLeigh Tugie58@aol.com wrote: > Hi, > > I am wondering if anyone has information on Williem MURPHY or his family. Does anyone have any information regarding Washington BYBEE who was born approximately 18 . He lived in either Pittsylvania or Campbell County . . . supposedly he was married? to Tabitha Bybee and he was our Great Grandfather (father of Joseph Henry Bybee born in 7/28/1881). Washington Biby (Bybee) (age 21) appeared in the 1860 Census in Campbell County, Castle Craig PO. That is the only time we can find his name. At that time was living in the household of Sarah Adams (65) and William Adams (27). We think that is the Washington Biby Bybee we are looking for. Thanks . . . Please check the 1850 Pittsy Co censuses that are available on line....having no approx age,for YOUR David, there are 3 possibilities.....page 195A Jesse Dalton 38 with son David 8 yrs, page 195A Booker Dalton 40, son David 13, page 195B Samuel Dalton 43 son David 5. Census records are one of the mainstays and should be the first thing you look for. Hope this helps.....Margie Brown
George, Your grandfather received a Confederate pension, in 1902. Since your info was so sparse it is difficult to answer your question. If you will check the 1850 census of Pittsy you will see that his age matches the John Pearson son of Mastin Pearson on page 231-B. Since I do not know John H."s wife name, but if it was Mary, then she also received a pension stating that John Hutson Pearson died ca 1916. All of this is available on the LVA digital page, and the Rootsweb census page 1850 for Pittsy. Margie Brown
I am looking for anyone who might have information on SAMUEL (SAM) STONE, living in Danville during 1920. He had a large family at that time.
There is an obit. in today's paper for an; Alice Evelyn Bell. Anyone interested please let me know. This is a partial obit, with actual full one coming on May 3rd. Do not know if this person is from Pitty. Co., or not as the address is 501 VES Rd. (this is a combination; retirement, assist. living, nursing facility). It is rather an elite facility and their residents come from all over. Just to let anyone know, this is in "The News & Advance", a Lynchburg paper. Faithie jbutt@lynchburg.net

Battle of Cowpens is one of the most famous battles of the American Revolution, it took place in South Carolina....two months after the Battle of Kings Mt, in Jan 1781, under Brig Gen Daniel Morgan , the Americans annihilated nearly a third of Cornwallis army including all his light troops. These two battles were the beginnig of the end for Britain, and led to victory for the Colonies. There is much information available, makes for some interesting reading.....if your ancestor fought there you can take great pride in that fact. Margie Brown
