Va Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania?read=101 Surname: Chattin, Williamson, Mills, John, Johns, Sealock, Costello ------------------------- Hello Gina, Elizabeth Stratton was the 2nd marriage of Thomas C. Chattin and they were married 5 may 1852 in Pittsylvania Co. Va. (def. Index to Court orders). Thomas was a famer and tobacco raiser and apparently a prosperous one. On 2/21/1814 Thomas was grantee of a deed from his fther, John Chattin. His brothers John Jr. and Joseph received similar deeds at that time which was shortly befor John's death (DB 19, 361). He purchased land from Jeduthan Carter on 1/19/1816 (DB 11, 275) and on 2/17/1817 purchased land from his brother in law Bazel Nelson and his sister Elizabeth, who had moved to Montgomery Co. Tenn. (DB 20, 291). this is thought to be land which John and previously sold or given to his daughter. On 6/16/1833 he purchased real estate from John Chattin Jr., Trustee probably a part of the land originally owned by John Sr. (DB 25, 362) John Chattin Jr. had moved to Tenn. before 1830. Thomas C. Chattin married Elizabeth Stratton in 1852 and she survived him. After his death in 1856, Elizabeth rejected her rights under the Will of which she was granted. Elizabeth continued to live in the same visinity until her death in 1866. John Chattin son of Thomas and Mary Chattin (Mary was Thomas C. Chattin first wife) was named administrator of her estate. 1810-60 Pittsyvania Co. Va. Census Littleton Parish Records, Cumberland Co. Va. Hi Louis, I have a small amount of info about the Hubbards that I will include in this note. I have a large amount of Thomas and Thornton info, to large to send via this method. SURNAMES: Farmer, Weeks, Chamber, Hogan I am trying to find information on my Farmer Family. My great grandfather was Edward "Ned" Dillion FARMER (b. 12 July 1858, d. 1939) who married Martha "Dollie" Adams WEEKS (b. 20 Aug 1871, d. 1961) on 6 June 1889. They lived in Motley, Virginia. He was the postmaster of Motley in 1905 according to PICKS, TRACKS AND BATEAUX, by Herman Melton. Edward and Martha FARMER had the following children: Charles Anderson FARMER (my grandfather) b. 2 June 1891 Myrtle May FARMER (married name - WORLEY) b. 1 May 1893 Lewis Tell FARMER b. 21 July 1894 Luther Daniel FARMER b. 24 Jan 1897 Nannie Deliliah FARMER (married name - GRUB) b. 9 Jan 1899 George Edward FARMER b. 22 Apr 1901 Henry Marsh FARMER b. 14 Apr 1904 Virgie Francis FARMER b. 1 May 1906 Ruby Alice FARMER (married name - WILKINSON) b. 30 Aug 1907 Julian Perrow FARMER b. 12 June 1910 Edward FARMER'S father was Samuel Edward FARMER who was married to Delilah KRANTZ. I was told that Samuel FARMER died at a young age. In the 1880 Pittsylvania County Census, their family is listed as follows: Delilah FARMER, 53, F (widowed) Edward D., 22, M Samuel, 10, M Volley CHAMBER, 28, M (son-in-law) Susan F. CHAMBER, 27, F (daughter) Margie A. CHAMBER, 2, F (gr-dau) Delilah Krantz FARMER later married a man with the last name of HOGAN. I was told they had one son, Sam HOGAN. The following is information given to me from my uncle, who is now deceased (not sure if it is 100% accurate): "Under the 1862 Homestead Act that granted free land to farmers and settlers, Samuel FARMER was granted a plot starting at Sycamore Creek and running to Sycamore which is about three miles long and extended back to Staunton River which was about two miles. This plot consisted of about 6,000 acres. Most of this land was in timber. Samuel owned slaves that cleared and worked the land. After Samuel's wife died (Delilah), the land was divided: 1,500 acres to the Sam HOGAN family, 1,500 acres to Edward, 1,500 acres to John, and 1,500 acres to Fannie." 1. Samuel Edward FARMER'S father was Henry FARMER 2. Henry FARMER'S father was Edward FARMER 3. Edward FARMER'S father was George FARMER 4. George FARMER'S father was John FARMER John FARMER supposedly started a Virginia homestead in 1752 (but I don't know where) Any information will be greatly appreciated! Cindy Taylor
Dear Subscribers, As you've no doubt noticed, we've had a radical increase in mail to VAPITTSY this evening -- 25 messages or so in the space of an hour. This is a direct result of GenConnect's assumption of queries and surname posts previously accepted by Gayle for posting on RootsWeb's Pittsylvania County genealogy website. I'm presuming that this very high volume is only temporary due mainly to reposts of surname data. We will have a higher number of messages (perhaps double) on VAPITTSY from here on in, though, because of the change. If there are any questions, you can e-mail me personally. Thanks! Posted on: Pittsylvania Co. Va Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania?read=100 Surname: CLAYTON ------------------------- I would like to connect with descendants and/or anyone else who might have info on my CLAYTON line. My great-grandfather lived in Danville, VA and is listed in the 1892-1893 directory as: "CLAYTON, D. W. flagman, h Henry cor Keene" supposedly meaning he lived in a house (possibly owned by him) on Henry Street, corner of Keene Street. His house (torn down in 1972-1973) was known as the "Railroad Clayton House." He was said to have died in a railroad accident although this is not yet been documented. The following is the info I do have: CLAYTON, DAVID W. (possibly stands for WASHINGTON) he was also known as DAVID KING CLAYTON or KING D. CLAYTON dob/either 1866 or 1868 in Person County, NC died/21 May 1899 in Danville, VA. married to LULA (possibly LAURA) PITTMAN CLAYTON son: DAVID WASHINGTON CLAYTON dob/16 Oct 1892 in Danville I do have documentation that my great-great-grandmother, MARTHA ANN (CHANDLER)CLAYTON dob/1836, and his older sister, LOVINIA CLAYTON, dob 1858, lived in the Danville area also, documented in the 1892-1893 directory as: "CLAYTON, Miss LOVENIA, weaver, h Baugh" "CLAYTON, Mrs. M. A., wid, h Baugh" also showing on same page: "CLAYTON, Nel, h Baugh" The "Nel" is probably a phonetic misspelling of my great-great-uncle's name, which was EWEL B. CLAYTON, dob 1873. There was also a younger sister, ELECTRA C. (?) CLAYTON, dob 1877 also living with the family on Baugh Street. My great-grandfather also had a younger brother, WILLIAM T. CLAYTON, dob/1869, who was killed in a very tragic railroad accident in Edgerton, VA in August 1891. This WILLIAM T. bought and owned the house on Baugh Street for his mother and sisters and younger brother to live in a few months before he died. I have lots and lots of other info on this family and would like to share it with anyone that has a connection. I would love to find any descendants and swap info. I am stymied in my efforts to find any descendants of the younger sister ELECTRA (as well as the older sisters in this family) due to not knowing what her married name would be, if she did indeed got married. There are other older brothers and sisters of this family (ten kids in all). The family originated in Person County, Roxboro, NC from late 1860s, to Mecklenburg County, VA in the 1870s & 1880s, to Danville, VA in the 1890s, and finally on down here in Atlanta, GA. I'd definitely appreciate any help!

Does anyone know who she was?? I think she was about 28 in 1850. Later I saw where she was in the "Poor House", then out again and in about 1880 was in the "Home For The Insane". Since her last name is BIBY, she has to be the daughter of one of the Pittsylvania Co., Biby,Bybee,Bibees. Or did she marry one of them??? However, I would like to know how she fits into my family tree. I feel like no one claimed her or wanted her. She must have had a terrible life. Thanks, Noellie bbnovak@hotmail.com
