Would the originator of the Thompson query, please give me alittle more info, do you have the marriage bond out of ILL? When did Isabella die and where? The reason for the above questions, is somewhere between the two messages, I keep getting a "bell ringing " in my head.....I think I may know something, if your Thompson man was known by any other name. regards, Margie Brown
Gary, Although I have several Robert Thompsons in my records, none matches the Robert whose birth date was probably around 1800 (assuming his marriage to Isabella was his first marriage). You may want to check out the 1767 list of tithables at the VAPittsylvania GenWeb page to see if your Boaz or Thompson family might be listed there in that time period. Hello I am looking for info on my great-grandmother, Emma Hundley Wells. Emma was born in 1867 in Danville (Cascade) Virginia and had 2 children in Virginia, Minnie and Rucker. In the late 1800's, she left her two children in the care of her brother, Nathan Hundley and moved to St. Louis MO with the white family that she was working for at the time. In St. Louis she met and married a man with the last name of Wells and had a set of twins, Nathan and Louise. She died in St. Louis in 1935 of cancer. Her parents were former slaves but I am not sure who they were. According to info that I have found, a free black by the name of Bartlett Hundley married another free black, Sallie Coleman in 1866 in Pittsylvania County VA. Bartlett was the son of Toni and Manley. Sallie was the daughter of Christopher Coleman. The wedding was performed by D. M. Wallace. I am trying to see if there is a connection here. If anyone has any info on any of the names mentioned or if in your research you have discovered that you family may have owned slaves and you are willing to share info, please contact me. April Kelley msajk@aol.com
Tina, The correct name is Leemont. It still exists and you can visit it. It's in northern Danville, just off North Main. Tom
Hi CJ, He is my ancestor. I, too, don't know where he was born. I found him in Wake Co., in 1784 and in Granville Co. in 1785. I believe he was in Granville until he bought land in Pittsylvania Co. after his second marriage to Mary Burgess, in 1798. His farm was located just east of Danville on the Dan River and Sandy Creek. His known children were Leonard Clark, Jr. who migrated to Smith Co., Tn. Leonard Clark, Jr. was by Leonard's first wife, thought to be Mary Messers. Leonard Clark's second marriage to Mary Burgess in 1798, produced one son by the name of Edward Burgess Clark, who migrated to Smith Co., Tn. where he married and then continued his migration down to Winston Co., MS. I don't have proof and probably never will but I believe that he is related to The Bowling Clark family of Halifax Co., VA. Very shortly, I will start posting my Clark information on this list and also on the Halifax Co., List to see if I can find out any more information on the Clarks of Pittsylvania, Halifax and Campbell Co., VA H & CJ Nichols wrote: > Can anyone tell me about the Leonard Clark that is listed as a > Revolutionary War soldier of Pittsylvania County.? Lois, I read your note to Louis from the Pitts. Co. site. Last summer, my husband, my father, and I went down to the Hubbard/Lawrence farm, dug the headstones out of the ground, and set them up. Of course, the cows knocked them right back over!!! I have pictures of the headstones and this is what is on them: F.C. Hubbard Born Sept. 1819 Died Sept. 18, 1897 Gone but not forgotten Letitia S. Hubbard Born Mar. 25, 1831 Died June 24, 1909 Farewell, Dear Mother, Sweet Thy Rest I have a copy of Letitia's Obituary and a picture of her and Franklin Clement Hubbard. I really want to get a fence around the graveyard, but can't afford to put one there right now. We, also, dug up another headstone that read: Lawton M. Son of W.M.&M.H.Lawrence Born Jan.28,1900 Died Aug.8,1900 I have been told that there are approximatedly 12 to 15 graves in the cemetery and I would like to know where the border in around all of the graves before a fence is put up. The first grave there was for Hezekiah Hubbard (9/12/1782 - 2/13/1822). He was the father of Franklin Clement Hubbard and his father, John Hubbard owned this land prior to it being willed to him. Hezekiah fought in the War of 1812. I have, also, been told that there is a slave cemetery located within site of the family cemetery. You might want to pass this info. along to Louis. I am, also, researching the Fullers. I hope that this helps in some way. In 1837 William Bennett murdered Dr. Joel Echols at Berger's Store in Staunton. He was convicted and sentenced to be hanged. The Virginia Supreme Court rejected his appeal in December, 1837. Does anyone know who this William Bennett is? Was the sentence carried out shortly thereafter? I am beginning to suspect he was the brother of Major John Bennett and the son of Rice Bennett and Sarah, but I don't have any proof. I would appreciate any information on this subject. Don Bennett

Virg in 1827 and later. Nancy was the oldest, James Jackson b1828 in Scott, Wiley and Julie, with his first wife Sahra Prater. He remarried in 1853 Johnson Co. Ky. to Sahra Jorden and had a couple more children. My Grandfather had always told me that James Jackson's father was named William, but on James Jacksons Marriage application it said Amos Bays, father, consents. Johnson Co Ky. records indicate that Amos was born in 1803 Pittsylvania Co. My family is notorious for going by their middle names, my Grandfather, GGrandfather and GGGrandfather all went by their middle names,(as do I "Ken")so it's possible Amos was a William Amos, but his Marriage certificat says Amos. I believe Amos is tied to the Peter or William Bays line that came to Pittsylvania but can't prove it. My Grandfather's name was James Peter so the name Peter appears throughout my linage
I have my great grandfather's death certificate. I'm having a little problem reading the handwriting. It shows the name of the cemetery as Leemont or Leencout. It's supposed to be in Danville. Is anyone familiar with this cemetery or knows what the real name of it may be? Does it still exist? I checked an online telephone directory, and did not find anything even close to this name listed. Everyone, If there are questions about the GenConnect gateway or the way the RootsWeb Pittsylvania County webpage query system has been restructured, please direct them to me personally, and not to the list. Thanks. Carol, I'm responding to the list because your question went to the list. As far as I know, no Patrick County query page has a gateway to VAPITTSY. If you have an example of an errant Patrick post, please send it to me. Glenn (the admin of the Pittsylvania GenConnect page) and I worked together to create the Pittsylvania GenConnect query page gateway to VAPITTSY on April 1 and I notified the list. It's worked pretty well and nobody has had any objections. It has two immediate benefits: 1) It is now unnecessary to check the Pittsylvania GenConnect query page if one is a subscriber to VAPITTSY 2) It allows Pittsylvania GenConnect query posters, who are not necessarily subscribers to VAPITTSY, to reach a larger audience. The downside is that it's possible to receive duplicate posts by persons who post to both VAPITTSY and Pittsylvania GenConnect. Another thing - now that Gayle's query page and surname page has migrated to GenConnect, we're going to get more posts on VAPITTSY. I believe the benefits outweigh any drawbacks, but I'm open to discussion - I'd really like any discussion on this, however, to take place offline (i.e. back and forth to me, personally). Thanks! Tom [listowner, VAPITTSY] >>> <Chathampit@aol.com> 05/19/00 07:13AM >>> Why are we getting notification that people are posting queries, etc., on the Pittsylvania and Patrick Counties Webpages? It seems to me to be taking up email space and too much time because I'm sure everyone researching these counties check regularly for queries. List owner, would you please reply? Why are we getting notification that people are posting queries, etc., on the Pittsylvania and Patrick Counties Webpages? It seems to me to be taking up email space and too much time because I'm sure everyone researching these counties check regularly for queries. List owner, would you please reply? Carol
Posted on: Pittsylvania Co. Va Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania?read=105 Surname: Thompson, Skagg ------------------------- Archibald Thompson and his brothers George and Roden, as well as their brother-in-law, Charles Skagg (the Long Hunter) are shown in the 1767 tithable list for Pittsylvania Co. the year it was formed from Halifax Co., Va. Later on, the families are found in Montgomery, Russell, Tazewell and other Virginia jurisdictions before moving on to Kentucky. I am seeking information about where the family was before they showed up in the Pittsylvania Co. tithables. Thanks, Jemima Gee Morse
