Posted on: Pittsylvania Co. Va Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania?read=159 Surname: Covington ------------------------- My g-g-g-grandfather, Joseph A. Covington b abt 1780 in Va, lived in Pittsylvania County until about 1807 when he moved his family to Rockingham County, NC. It is believed that Edmond Covington and Fannie Pruitt of Pittsylvania County, Va may have been his parents. My g-g-g-grandmother's name is unknown to me at this time. Joseph's children by my g-g-g-grandmother are: William Covington b 5 Oct 1800 in VA Josiah Covington b 1 Oct 1805 in VA Nancy Covington by 29 Jun 1807 in VA Edmond (Edward) Covington b 14 Apr 1809 David Covington b. 24 Feb 1811 in NC Fanney Covington b 21 Mar 1813 in NC Catherine Covington b 1 Jan 1816 in NC John Anderson Covington b 7 Apr 1818 in NC (my g-g-gf) James H. Covington b. 7 Mar 1821 in NC Children by his second wife Elizabeth Hudnall (md. 1833): Richard A. Covington b. 4 May 1835 Charles William Covington b. 13 Feb 1835 Mary Susan Covington b. 27 Feb 1839 Joseph Covington died 26 May 1863 in Rockingham County, NC. Shortly afterward, Elizabeth Hudnall Covington and her children moved to Missouri to live near her sister's family. It seems that about all of Elizabeth Hudnall Covington's sibblings eventually moved to Missouri. I would like to "share and compare" with any Covington researcher! Please contact me if you know anything about any of the above named Covingtons!

I am a descendant of some Weakley Co, TN Adkins. We do not know for sure where they migrated from, but have been assuming Pitt Co, as others in the family lines came from there. My earliest ADKINS is James Collie ADKINS b.1845, d. 1-28-1919. We do not know his birthplace or deathplace, nor his parents. He married a Harriet E.?. Their son was John Braxton ADKINS b. 1871, d.1945. Again no place info. He married Lucia or Lucy Morris b.1874, d. 1917. They had a son James Thomas ADKINS who was born in 1893 in Weakly CO, TN and died 1973 in Charlotte, MI. Do these names ring any bells with your research. Thanks Cris

Hi Mike: I am searching for my ancestor BEN WILLIAMS who was in Pittsylvania Co. in 1793. His daughter married Jeremiah Gray who came from Montgomery Co., Maryland. I am including a will of BENJAMIN WILLIAMS of Montgomery Co., MD who mentions a McCUIBBIN family which may connect with your ancestors and I have not been able to ascertain if he is the right ancestor. Among the Shumate names is the name WILLY JAMES and a WILLY JAMES is also mentioned in this Will. Since all of these were in Pittyslvania Co. at one time and came from or went to somewhere else, there might be a lead for you. Hi! I'm sorry to post this to the list, but I got a nice reply back to my inquiry about Sandy Creek yesterday by Debbie ( Shadow11227 ). I tried to answer her but AOL won't let me send it because it is "an unknown address". Debbie, if you see this, please respond back. We definitely connect with the John Adams and Mary Martin family. Thanks to all who answered by query about Sandy Creek yesterday. Your replies were very helpful and greatly appreciated. Sherry
Virginia, even though the 1850 Census cites Coleman as being 60 years old, he was really 40 years old as he m. Ann Lewis on 27 Dec 1834 as being 24 years old....In the 1860 Census, he was 51 years old. so we have 3 different dates for him, 60 in 1850, 51 in 186 and 24 in 1834.
