Wanda, I have the family listing of the children and some of the grandchildren of Captain John Morton (Capt Revolutionary War, Va Cont Line) who died in Prince Edward Co test 1796, his son Charles died 1796 leaving sons John, Nathaniel and William. He had a son Benjamin Morton of Halifax Co, Va. Benjamin is dead by 1852 leaving unamed children. Does this sound like anything you might be interested in. I am not a descendant of this family but the information is from the 1852 Scrip Act papers at the National Archives. regards, Margie Brown
I am searching for the family of Capt. (perhaps an honorary title) Isaiah Morton of Pittslyvania co., VA, who I think was the son of John Morton of that place in the 1700s and his first wife. I have found this citation which may help: In the last will and testament of James Strange of 3 Sept. 1808, "Capt. Isaiah Morton and Thomas Harris, appointed executors of this last will and testament. Sept. 3, 1808 Pittsylvania County, Va. Thanks. Their parents were Thomas and Nancy Bowling Cook. Thomas is the s/o Harmon II and Susannah Ramsey. Harmon I is the son of Harmon II and Mary Ann Agnes ?Turk. THIS IS NOT MY DIRECT LINE. Please verify everything I am saying. My sources are the Piedmont Lineages # 17 and other issues. The research was done by Anne Dobson an excellent researcher who contributes to the Lineages. She says that Harmon Cook brought many families to Pittsylvania Co VA from PA around 1760. I am trying to find out what part of PA these families came from. I do not have anything on your Clark. Perhaps Anne does. Linda Shorb I

They had (at least) 3 sons- John H. (b 1806), William, Jr. (b. 1811) and Robert (b. 1814) and the family moved to Wilson Co., TN after 1820. My family history has the JOHNS line coming from Wales. Interested in exchanging data with others interested in these lines.
Hello to the list, I'm a new subscriber. I'm planning a trip to Pittsylvania County in the next couple of weeks And would like to visit the area where my ancestor, James A. RIDDLE, Lived before 1850. He was not far from Callands, near the headwaters of Sandy River. If anyone could suggest historical sites, or genealogical resources, To visit in this area, I would be most grateful. Just don't want to miss something That "I should've seen." Also, family tradition refers to a "Crossroads Church" in this area. Not sure if that was its proper name, or just a reference to its location. Would love to hear if this rings a bell with anyone. Norma Riddle Helms

In the 1782 Heads of Household list is a Jeremiah Burns. I believe he is the same Jeremiah Burns that went to Greenup County, Kentucky. If anyone is researching the Burns line in Pittsylvania County, I would like to compare notes. Am trying to find out more about his family. Thanks! CJ

Posted on: Pittsylvania Co. Va Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania?read=170 Surname: Clark, Cook ------------------------- On the 1850 Pittsylvania Co. Census, I found Harmon and Sarah Cook living next door to David and Eliza Cook Clark. I would imagine that she was Harmon's sister. On the other side of the David Clark family lived her parents, Thomas and Nancy Cook. The Census found these families in the northern part of the county. Back in the earlier part of the 1800's Leonard Clark, my ancestor, was living near Danville, on Sandy Creek and the Dan River in the southern district. His near neighbor was an Elijah Cook. I don't have my records in front of me but believe that on the same tithe list, John Clark and an a Cook were farming together. John Clark, it is believed is a son of Leonard Clark. I don't know if David Clark is related to my family of Clarks yet or if your Cooks are part of the Cook family in southern Pittsylvania Co. Any information would be appreciated. Jim
Hi April, I usually see the county carved up into Districts, not Townships -- there is a Tunstall District in the southwest corner of the county. Consulting the current VDOT county map, the northern boundary is VA Rte. 57 west of Chatham; the eastern boundary kind of zigzags it's way from the SW outskirts of Chatham along the western flank of White Oak Mtn, down toward the NC border, just east of Cascade. The towns contained in it are Callands, Swansonville, Cascade, Brosville, Whitmell, and several others. Hope this helps or is at least not confusing, Tom ----- Original Message ----- From: <Msajk@aol.com> To: <VAPITTSY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 11, 2000 10:55 PM Subject: [VAPITTSY-L] Tunstall Township > Hello All > Recently I was able to check out the Birth Register for Pittsylvania County > and I noticed that at the top of the page, next to the county, it had > Tunstall Township. He married Jane(----)George about 1771, served in the Revolution. He may be a relative of Thomas Mustain, but he is not listed among Thomas' children in the will. He and one of Thomas' sons were picked up one time for being drunk according to Pittsylvania court orders.
I am trying to get information about my husband's great grandparents and family.. Issac CLIMER (Born in NC) and Sarah Jane HILL were married in Pittsylvania Co. Their son, William Edgar CLIMER was born in Chatham, near Danville in 1867. They also had four other daughters, Martha CLIMER, Alice CLIMER, Dorothy CLIMER and Anna (?) CLIMER. William, Martha, Dorothy and Alice went to Cincinnati before 1890. William first, followed by the others. Issac and Sarah Jane CLIMER also went. Anna Climer (Aunt Tiny was a nickname) married ATKINS or ADKINS and stayed in the Chatham. The last address that any of the family had for her was a 1986 address c/o Roy Worley, Dry Fork Blairs,VA. Any information about these family names would be greatly appreciated. Anne Cobb
