Va Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania?read=197 Surname: PARKS, PAYNE ------------------------- I am researching the descendants of Catherine PAYNE and William PARKS. They were married in Pittsylvania County, Virgina 24 Dec 1781. They emigrated to Lincoln County, Kentucky near the end of, or soon after the end of the Revolutionary War. Some of their children emigrated to Henry County, Missouri about 1830. I have considerable information about those children and their descendants. Would be interested in sharing, or in gathering more about any of them, or about their ancestry. Anything would be appreciated.

I am researching the descendants of William PARKS born about 1760, VA. William married Catherine PAYNE in Pittsylvania County, VA in 1781 then moved to Lincoln County, Kentucky a few years later. Several of William and Catherine PARKS' children then emigrated to Henry County, Missouri about 1830. The given names, Bird and Birdie appear with great regularity among their descendants.
PLEASE SEND DIGEST VERSION. THANKS VIVIAN SMITH
I was very interested to see the name MOTLEY in the SHELTON family bible. My 5G grandmother was (possibly) Sarah MOTLEY who married Joab MEADOR sometimer around 1765 in VA either Caroline or Pittsylvania County. Their son William Henry MEADOR was not mentioned in Joab's will and so proving the lineage is difficult and I must go at it from other directions. Joseph David MEADOR, son of William Henry MEADOR married Elizabeth PAYNE in Pittsylvania Co in 1829. Elizabeth PAYNE was the dau. of William PAYNE who was married to Sarah NANCE. Their daughter Sarah PAYNE married Tunstall SHELTON. I have heard that the PAYNES, NANCES, SHELTONS and MOTLEYS were intertwined for quite a long time and would appreciate any insight as to this. Thanks, Jane DRAKE BRODY

Jim, Really sounds like the Christopher Clark family of Louisa to me, especially with the "Bolling" in there. Try http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lksstarr/ for more on these families or contact Linda Starr directly (her e-mail is on the page). Tom
It must have been a common phenomenon. Our ex-president Harry S. Truman only had an initial. LOL Happy Unraveling the mysteries our Ancestors Laura Irby in Newport News << The initials are probably the persons name. I think it was common for people to be given initials for names in years past. My grandmother had 9 kids and I think she got tired of thinking up names. I have one uncle living today with the name J.O. nothing else. Her other sons received a first name but the middle name is an initial- Carl C, Claude R, William H. Mona >>

Dorothy . . . Thanks a bunch for the information on William Bybee. At this time I do not have the names of the children of Louisa Worsham and Dabney Bybee . . . however, I am going to the State Library soon and will let you know if I find anything there. Neither do I know when they or William died. If you learn anything, please let me know. Do you have a copy of Martha "Patsy" Worsham's fathers and/or brothers wills or of the Account of the Estate of Robert B. Kelly? If so, could you possibly e-mail me a copy since "Patsy" and/or William are mentioned in them? Thanks for all your help . . . look forward to hearing from you. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Hi Marge, I will take you up on your kind offer. Would you check to see if Leonard Clark is listed. He was born abt 1754 in NC or VA, He enlisted for a period of three years. He was captured by the British and held a prisoner in an unheated house in New Your City. He was severely frostbitten to the point that he became a cripple due to damage to his feet and hands. He bought a small farm in Pittsylvania Co., in 1798 and married his second wife there the same year. He received a pension from the govt and died in Pittsylvania Co., in 1830. I am sure he was an enlisted man. Did they receive warrants too or did they have to be officers? Sincerely, Jim Clark Mgbrown105@aol.com wrote: > Dear Kate, Thank you for asking about the 1852 Scrip Act. These papers cover > the last Bounty distribution for American Revolutionary War service.
