Va. in 1818. Name: Levi or Leviticus Thomas McNeiley (McNally, McNeale, McNeeley ??) He told the family his parents were killed in the "scourge" and he and his siblings were split up. We know of one brother John who was born in 1820. By 1853 they are in Missouri and married. Levi married Ann Gish Sperry dau. of David in 1840. My question is what was the "scourge" and how can I find the names of his parents & siblings? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you. Tina Nord

    3. I am certain the books you are looking for are the many volumes of _Cavaliers and Pioneers_ that abstract the Virginia Patents and Grants. These are available for purchase from most book sellers including those like Barnes and Nobles. There are now 6 volumes (I believe that is the right number) so it will run into some money. Most libraries that collect Virginia material at all will have these books because they are foundational for Virginia Research. Kendrick, as as some of you know I'm working on The Civil War and finding out how many of my ancestors surve in the war. I have about 25 confirmed relatives so far, Including my GGG Grandfather Ira Collins, and GGG Grandfather Alexander Hensley. The reason for this message is I'm looking in a new direction. Can anyone assist me with the Agee,Clark, Holland, Hollandsworth, Hensley family names, I know some of them were from Pittsylvania County and a few were in Henry and or Patrick Counties. These names are on my Grandmother Clark's side of the family. I have over 25,000 names in my files, but having a hard time connecting some of them. Also I'm still looking for any stories, and family names that were in the Civil war to add to this project. I am in the process of adding a new section of people not related to me, and stories past down through families so they can be peserved for fututre generations. Any help in this will be greatly appreciated. P.S. for any one I have already sent a copy of my work to this point, take Nathaniel A. Adkins off the list, it is a different Nathaniel A. Adkins, the one on the list is from Henry County, not Pittsylvania County, and the dates of death do not match his War records. Respectfully Yours, Michael D. kendrick 10424 Genito Rd. 3. Laura, The Regimental history says that Zachariah Iry was in Co I 21st inf. Presetn from 11/12/61 to 1/2/64 except asent when wounded 3/4 to 11/12/62 and AWOL 1-2 to 7/8/63. His entry has less info than some, but I don't know why. The Author is Susan Riggs and she doesn't foot note her source as some do. you might get more info from the NARA on Zachariah, which would tell you exactly when and where he was wounded and how. The only other Irby listed in the 21st is a Robert Riby b. 1820? Pittsylvania Co, father Nathaniel Irby Co I wounded 8/9/62 Cedar Mountain Died Sep 1 1862. I''m not sure of the relationship of the two men. The 21st was present at the surrender at Appomattox and I don't see it melded into another unit. "when the 21st was found that Lee was going to surrender, the Colorbearer tore the flag they had carried into small pieces and gae a piece to each man. The flag had been shot through by three cannon balls and by September 1864, had more than 100 musket ball holes. The men stacked arms on Apr 11 and the formal surrender ceremony was on April 12. The 21st Virginia, commanded at Appomattox by Col.William A. Wicher had 55 men, plus their leader paroled. " 21st Virginia Infantry", Virginia Regimental Histories Series, Susan A Riggs. p 50 Also from same page, The 21st had its share of brave men and of cowards. It engaged in many of the most significant battles of the American Civil War. The story of the 21st Virginia Infantry Regiment should perhaps close with a quote from John H. Worsham, the indefatigable chronicler of its activities; "It is needless to make comparisons between different commands of the Army of Northern Virginia. The world never saw such courage, devotion and patriotism as was displayed by the men of that army and every man in it who did his duty was a hero". Just as the flag went in many different directons, so did the men of the 21st after the war. For those with an interest, I'd highly recommend the series, available at most National Battlefields. For FYI the Number of Men who served in the 21st VA Inf Reg. totalled 1363, with Co I comprised of 154. At the end, they had 55 paroled. Scary thought. ----- Original Message ----- From: <LJIrby@aol.com> To: <VAPITTSY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 14, 2000 10:23 PM Subject: Re: [VAPITTSY-L] Civil War Info Search > I would appreciate any answer to this to go to the list. 1. Re: [VAPITTSY-L] Martha "Patsy" Worsham
    2. Pat, There were two Martha "Patsey" Worshams in Pittsylvania Co. at the same time. One born abt 1783 & md William Bybee abt 1803 who is d/o Henry Worsham & Agness Kelley. She is listed in her father's will dated 24 Nov 1815 as Patey Biby and in the will of her brother Henry dated 2 Sep 1821 as Martha Bybe . The other Martha "Patsey" Worsham md John Worsham Mar 1801. On 15 Apr 1799 Her uncle, John Worsham sold to Martha for 55 pounds land located No. side of Dan River-Joshua Worsham's line containing 60 acres (p 437 Book 11 GS#33268.) She married John Worsham in 1801 in Pittsylvania Co.,Va. She & her husband John Worsham sell this land from Washington Co., Va. on 2 Apr 1803.-(pg 239 DB 14 Pittsylvania Co., Va.) In Order book 11,p 336 contains a suit between Edmund Fallow and John Worsham, "who hath intermarried with Patsey a daughter and legal representative of Joshua Worsham the younger, dec'd. Her uncle John Worsham, Sr. was her guardian when she and John Worsham,Jr. were married Mar 1801 in Pittsylvania Co. In 1824, she is a legatee of John Worsham, her uncle of Pittsylvania Co., Va. and received $1250 as well as her husband John Worsham s/o Robert Worsham & Ruth Wynne. Robert Worsham, John Worsham & Joshua Worsham, Jr. were brothers. All three plus other children were named in the 1771 will of their father Joshua Worsham, Sr. From the above information Martha Worsham Bybee remained in Pittsylvania Co. Martha (Worsham ) Worsham moved to Washington Co., VA in about 1803 & later on to Chariton Co., MO. I hope this helps clear up your confusion.
