James A. Mitchell (d. 1795) married 1779 Sarah Warren Philpott. They had at least one child Elizabeth Michell (d. 1859) who married Hugh Reynolds 1801. The 1830 Census of KY shows a number of Parks men, two in Lincoln County. The History of Pittsylvania County VA by Clement, 1976, on p 172 reports that Samuel Parks was a wagon conductor in 1781, and on page 287 that John Parks was an early JP in 1783, same time period as Reuben Payne and Robert Payne. The 1790 census shows William Parks, 3 whites, 1 black in Pittsylvnia County, VA.

    2. Linda Lewis
    3. William and Mary College Historical Quarterly, Vol. 20, # 2, P. 143 has "David" Shelton being the father of Millicent Shelton in 1777 on a marriage record. Vol 6, No. 4, p. 220-221 says that her father was "Daniel" Shelton ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/pittsylvania/vitals/marriages/marr10.txt Is anyone on this list researching that name? This is a classic case that we must check original sources and use only publications as hints. Discrepencies are even in 100-year-old articles in highly-respected journals. Linda

    2. Thanks to all who answered my query about the VA-NC Piedmont Genealogical Society web page, expecially Dick. I opened the Virginia Genealogical Society web site with no problem. Like Dick I could not open the VA-NC Piedmont GS web site, but thru the VGS web site I found one for the city of Danville (www.ci.danville.va.us/) than answers many questions I have seen on this forum. They have a map locating the courthouse. The VGS web site contains many interesting links. Thanks again to all, Elmer
