Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania/355 Surname: Eanes, Griggs, Riddle, Murray ------------------------- Hello all, I am researching, Henry Woodson Eanes that married Elizabeth C. Griggs Jan 22, 1845 I believe in Pittsylvania Co., VA - her father's name may have been William D. Griggs (with or without the "s"). Need help finding the parents of Elizabeth A. Riddle that married Arthur Washington Eanes on June 5, 1802 in Pittsylvania Co., VA,. Also need help to find the parents of Nellie Eleanor Murray that married Arthur Washington Eanes, Sr. on April 3, 1783/1785 in Charlotte Co., VA, they moved to Pittsylvania Co where Arthur died about Jan 1819. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tamara
Capt. James Brewer b. circa 1740 led a company of militia from Pittsylvania county, VA, in the Battle of Guilford (1780). Before the war, he and wife Temperance (surname unknown) had children: Sackville, Patty/Patsy, Caleb, Nancy, Betty/Betsy and Hundley. Following are recorded marriages of children in Pittsylvania: Sackville to Frances Hopkins (1785); Patty to John Brewer(presumably cousins)(1782); Caleb to Polly Hundley (1779); Nancy to Charles Walker (1785). Marriage for Betty has not been found. By the turn of the century, several of the family members had migrated to GA. Hundley married in Oglethorpe county, GA, 1799. Caleb died in Wilkes county, GA, in 1808. Capt James Brewer died in Wilkes co, GA, in 1819. To fill out knowledge of this family I am seeking: Who were Capt. James Brewer's parents and where were they (he) from? What was Temperance Brewer's maiden name? Who was the John Brewer that married Patsy? (The man some researchers think was this John Brewer died in Elbert county, GA, naming his beloved wife Betsy.) Who/where did Betty marry? Would appreciate hearing from anyone that has any info at all on this family. Thanks for reading. Dave Brewer

Would like to contact anyone researching , or having data concerning, that individual. I believe he is my gggggrandfather. Does anyone know the availability of the book cited?
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who responded to my earlier apology regarding the Archives. You have all been SO supportive!!! It really means alot to me. I would have preferred to answer you all individually, but there were so MANY responses!!! I did want to answer a couple of questions that I received though. Yes, I do take care of the archives on a volunteer basis, and I continually stretch myself to take care of as many counties as I can because I, like you, want to make sure that new files do continue to be uploaded and that the counties are cared for. Sometimes I have the time & energy to do a fantastic job updating the pages on a timely basis, and sometimes, I just don't have what it takes. But all in all, I love taking care of the Archives and watching them grow. I think it's a wonderful way to volunteer my time & hope I'll be able to continue to do so for a very long time. I have completed the uploads for July, minus a couple of small changes that need to be made and also minus the scanned documents. My next goal is to complete those & then I'll move on to the new files received in August. Then I will send notification to the individual county lists for all the new files uploaded during July & August. After that, I will start work on organizing some new counties that I have adopted. Once those pages are updated, I'll subscribe to the mailing lists for those counties & notify the folks there that the counties now have a new archivist who will TRY to post new files on a timely basis :) I'm sure those folks will be happy as I don't believe those counties have had anything new posted in quite some time. Once again, thanks so much for your support and all your kind words!!! It's good to know that there are real people out there (and nice ones too!) that are benefiting from my time & effort. Thanks again, you're the best!!! Linda--do you have any information on the parents and their sibs of Sarah Phillpot? Family legend has it that the wife of Abraham Aaron, Sr. might have been a Phillpot [do not know if this was speculation or actual fact]. It was recently verified for me that Abraham Aaron, Sr. of Pittsylvania County did NOT marry Judith Dill in that county in 1771/2 and I am back on the track of a Phillpot. Your Sarah would have been of an age to be the daughter of one of this unnamed Phillpot's brothers. Thanks, judy arnn-knight

Household 585 was Ethelred Keatts and his wife Harriet Shelton, d/o Richard P. & Martha (Keatts) Shelton. Richard was s/o Daniel Shelton Jr. Household 587 was Richard Keatts and his wife Temperence Shelton, d/o Tunstall & Fanny (Payne). I think this Tunstall was s/o Daniel Shelton Sr. Household 596 was Vincent Shelton, s/o Armistead, & his (Vincent's) wife Lettie, d/o William Shelton (s/o Abraham) Going in the opposite direction: Household 568 was Victory Shelton, s/o Littleberry (s/o Young Shelton & Henrietta Shelton) Household 566 was Washington Shelton, age 67. Household 537 was Morton's brother Richard. Household 536 was Morton's brother Daniel III. I wish I knew where these households would be on a modern map. Can anyone help? I don't know how far apart they were, but it can't be far. That is a lot of kin to pack into such a small number of census pages. Thanks for helping me think about these people. Glen, Disregard my previous answer about Coleman Shelton. I believe that's supposed to be Coleman Scruggs I pulled out the 1850 Pittsylvania Co Census transcription by Mike Williams. I think that's a mistranscribed census you're looking at. If it's the on online, I thought that had been changed. I believe the Coleman Shelton and Ann you're looking at should be Coleman Scruggs and Ann Lewis. Ann is the d/o of William Shelton Lewis and Ann "Nancy" Harrison. William Shelton Lewis is son of Jane Shelton and William Lewis. Jane Shelton is the d/o John Shelton d. 1804. Coleman Scruggs and Ann Lewis were my GGGgrandparents. I can tell you about where they lived. It's now Deer View Rd, a bit east and slightly north of Gretna on the east side of Rt. 29. They lived next to Victor C. (aka Victory Shelton) and on the other side was james W.T. Crews. Next in line is Moton (Morton) Scruggs (md Martha J. Lewis ,d/o William SHelton Lewis and Ann Nancy Harrison. I knew there was an error in the transcription but I thought it had been changed, if you're looking at an online version. If you're looking at the original manuscript, then there is a large coincidence. Coleman W. Scruggs and Morton Scruggs were brothers who married sisters, d/o William Shelton Lewis and Ann "Nancy" Harrison. The Olive Shelton is the widow of Beverly Shelton. Can't answer the rest, although Mike Williams has a pretty good listing of marriages in his published transcription. Household 581 was William Shelton, age 52; this could be William s/o Abraham (s/o Crispin} Household 582 was Wesley Shelton, s/o Susannah Shelton & Armistead Shelton Household 584 was Edward Shelton, age 23; I don't have a likely candidate for her. Household 585 was Ethelred Keatts and his wife Harriet Shelton, d/o Richard P. & Martha (Keatts) Shelton. Richard was s/o Daniel Shelton Jr. Household 587 was Richard Keatts and his wife Temperence Shelton, d/o Tunstall & Fanny (Payne). I think this Tunstall was s/o Daniel Shelton Sr. Household 596 was Vincent Shelton, s/o Armistead, & his (Vincent's) wife Lettie, d/o William Shelton (s/o Abraham) Going in the opposite direction: Household 568 was Victory Shelton, s/o Littleberry (s/o Young Shelton & Henrietta Shelton) Household 566 was Washington Shelton, age 67. The only candidate I can suggest is George Washington Shelton, s/o Mark. Comments? Household 565 is John Butcher, where George Shelton, age 16, is a laborer. I have no good candidates. Household 564 is Moses Shelton, s/o Gabriel Jr. Household 556 is Littleberry Shelton (s/o Young & Henrietta (Shelton) Shelton) Household 555 is John Shelton, age 25. I have no good candidate, but he must be closely related. Household 554 is Mastin Shelton, s/o Stephen & Lettice (Shelton) Shelton. Stephen was s/o Armistead & Susannah (Shelton) Shelton. Lettice was d/o Gabriel. Household 553 was Tunstall Shelton, brother of Mastin (above). Household 552 was William D. Yeatts. His dau Margaret md John Tyler Shelton (s/o William C.) His dau Eliza md John C. Shelton (s/o Henry & Letty (Shelton) Shelton. Henry was s/o Daniel Jr. & Letty was d/o Young). And William Yeatts' dau Rebecca md William Henry Shelton, s/o Littleberry. This is one tangled web. Household 547 was Nathan Shelton, s/o John S. (s/o Gabriel) Household 546 was Bird Shelton (s/o Daniel Jr.) & Elery Shelton (d/o Young) Household 545 was headed by Morton Pannell Shelton, s/o Daniel Jr., with his mother & sister resident, so presumably Daniel Jr.'s home originally.
