I am sorry to have to repost this but do to a computer problem I lost some of the information. I received from a kind person a Family group made up at Salt Lake City. That is the main thing I am hoping to receive again. I lost it before I had a chance to copy it or reply. The group I am looking for appears to be from Halifax County and then Pittsylvania County, Virginia. They move around 1820 to Larue County, Kentucky. William, Jesse, and Price Pearman. They are believed to be sons of Nathan Pearman. The name Randolph appears as a middle name in some of the descendants. This could be a clue. They are traveling with the Patterson family, the Gardner family, and the Long family. Thank you for your help. Sorry to be such trouble. Jeff Bailey Gladstone, Missouri 64119
Posted on: Pittsylvania Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania/391 Surname: Adkins, Clark, Hensley, Kendrick, Reynolds ------------------------- Hello Everyone, I want to thank everyone who provided any information or assisted me in the research of this massive project. At present I have 78 Family members who served in the 18th, 21st, 38th, 42nd, 46th, 53rd, and 57th Virginia Infantries. The project now includes over 300 non family members who also served in the war in these units as well. I now have over 148 pages of data typped on the men, the battles they saw action at, stories passed down through various families, History of life in the army camps, battlefields, and a brief history of almost every engagement they saw action at. Over the past 5 months, I have visited over 100 battlefields collecting information on the battlefields and general information on the war. I have taken tons of pictures to document each of the battlefields and located about 50 graves of the Civil War members and photographed them as well. I am still seaking any additional information to be added in this project, so if you know of someone who may have a letter, photograph of a civil war vet, I would be honored to add it to the project. The following is a quote from the Memoriam page in the first part of the project: " In Loving Memory of all of the Brave men from Franklin, Henry and Pittsylvania Counties, who served with pride in the Civil War, 1861 - 1865. May your sacrifices never be forgotten." The Project is titled " In The Shadows of Turkeycock Mountain" With a lot of luck and work it should be finished I hope the last part of October. Again may thanks to everyone who has help in this project, and look forward to hearing from others in this quest. Respectfully yours, Michael D. Kendrick 10424 Genito Rd. Hi Anne, The lady could be none other than Marillyn Halstead (at the VA-NC Piedmont Genealogical Society) -- and yes, she's extraordinarily helpful and and has an amazing wealth of information in her head. Glad you found some interesting things! Tom
Dear Folks: A couple weeks ago I posted a late night plea for guidance on how to best spend my time during a one-day trip to Pittsylvania County. So many of you kind people supplied information! I tried to thank each and all, but if I missed you, I apologize. I was amazed at the Archives room in the Danville Library. The little lady archivist was a dynamo! She knew where to find everything and she was the most willing "source" I've ever dealt with! In addition to finding several pieces of good information, I was able to locate an old private cemetery where my greatgrandparents and several other family members are buried. Since I took photographs, I'm sure that cemetery will never again be "lost." It was a wonderful trip, and even husband -- who is not a genealogy buff -- enjoyed my ancestor hunt. Thank you all for sharing! Anne Nemeth-Barath researching primarily Parrish in Pittsylvania
Witcher. I was told that the Witcher family of Atllanta, Fulton Co., GA area, some of whom went to Lampasas, Texas following the Civil War, were originally from Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Perhaps this will help some one. Bonnie Reach, Alba

Note found on rootsweb: ROBERT WENTWORTH RAGLAND, son of GIDEON RAGLAND, SR. and NANCY CLOPTON, was born January 20, 1788 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He served as Ensign in Pittsylvania militia in the War of 1812 and was Deputy Sheriff of Pittsylvania County from 1814 until 1818, when he removed to Warren County, Kentucky. In Warren County, RAGLAND was a planter and land speculator, and was serving as a Justice of Warren County in 1832. Records show that he and SINAI cohabited for 28 years and had 10 children, but never married: February 23, 1835, RAGLAND petitioned the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to legitimize his 6 living "illegitimate children by SINAI TAYLOR," to confirm their RAGLAND name, and make them "capable of inheritance in law and equity, to all the lands and tenements, goods and chattels, right and credits of said ROBERT W. RAGLAND, in as full and ample a manner as if they had been severally born in lawful wedlock"; in his will, RAGLAND described her as "the woman living with me, SINAI TAYLOR"; and she signed her own will as "SINAI TAYLOR." SINAI TAYLOR was b. SINAI COX December 22, 1800 in KY; dau. of JOHN P. COX (1758-1832) and SARAH NUNNALLY (1759-1846) who m. December 26, 1777 Henry County, Virginia. SINAI COX 1st m. JOHN WHEELER,one son- JOHN W. WHEELER b. abt. 1819 KY; 2nd m. JEFFERSON TAYLOR and had son WILLIAM C. TAYLOR 1821 KY. 3rd marriage? to ROBERT WENTWORTH RAGLAND with ten children b.1822-1839. Strange that SINAI and her sister SARAH 'SALLY' COX b.June 08, 1781 in Virginia and m. JOHN TAYLOR both had sons named WILLIAM C. TAYLOR.(SARAH and JOHN TAYLOR'S son WILLIAM C. b. 1808) Anyone with a connection of JOHN TAYLOR and JEFFERSON TAYLOR? Speculatiing if they are brothers? Thanks in advance, Jan Shelton Nixon
Would like to hear from anyone with Hopper or Edwards families in Pittsylvania County. Moses Hopper aka Edwards was born out of wedlock supposedly to a man surname Hopper and a woman surname Edwards circa 1764. He was bound out at an early age as an orphan to William Trainum...and later ran away. It is believed that it was his Hopper father who died as it appears his mother later married a man surname Brown and had other children. ANY help on this puzzle will be very welcome. Thanks, Sue

Posted on: Pittsylvania Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Pittsylvania/380 Surname: Eanes ------------------------- Hi Tamara, I believe that I am a descendant of Henry Woodson Eanes of Pittsylvania Co. I am in the beginners stage of researching but have been in contact with a distant cousin, Samuel Eanes of Henry Co,Va. Sam is the one who was able to put names together for me as I only knew my grandparents and greatgrandparents. His information fits the info you have. You can try reaching him at SEANES@digdat.com . I believe I descend through Henry Woodson And Elizabeth Griggs Eanes' son Thomas Eanes and his wife Nannie Alice Gray. Thomas and Nannie's son Archer Thomas Eanes was my greatgrandfather who passed away in March 1979 and is buried on my grandfather's farm in Pittsylvania Co Va. My grandfather is Stuart Edward Eanes, Sr and my father is Stuart Edward Eanes,Jr. I have been looking around and most of what I have seen on the net indicates that (like others have already responded to) Henry is a descendant of Edward and Jane (Sublett) Eanes from the Sublett's of Charlotte County and The Eanes' of Chesterfield County. Of course I still have not personally gathered any proof, that is my next step.
Does anyone know anything about this Borden Tract? Apparently someone named J. Borden chose 100 Scots-Irish families from Ulster, Ireland and brought them to Virginia to settle on this 92,000 acre tract of land. Are these families listed in any book or publication?
