Surnames: Bowles Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3AC.2ACE/21.470.1.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: It was your hotmail address that bounced. I'll resend. And I'll urge you to join the Bowles list, too, in that there may be folks who've changed their address and who haven't told me about it...so that could knock off some names from this list of 26, and I wouldn't know what their new addresses are. But they might be a current member of the Bowles list. I want you to maximize your chances of finding good information! Also, the information that you have, and the new things you find, need to be given to the Bowles list so that it can go into the Bowles list archives for someone to find in the future. Join us and let's see how much more we can build on what you have. You're very generous to help your cousin---maybe we can help you even more.

Maybe his marriage to Tilley Shockly was a second marriage? I do have a photo of my Aunt Alice & Charles Bowles, so if anyone is interested, I will be glad to see that you get copies. Thanks Kandie

The Bowles line is actually my cousins fathers side of her family and I am doing her a favor as she is in her 80's and hasn't had contact with that part of her family since she came to Calif. in the 1920's as a very young child. I would really be pleased to join this group of 26 people and hopefully find some new info. Thanks a bunch......Kandie

    3. The Falls in the Dan River at Danville (around Union to Main St. Bridges) is the area of the settlement which was named Wynn's Falls for the family who owned the land and developed the settlement as a trading area. It was where travel had to get off river, take boats, etc around the falls, and then continue on the river. One of the first transportation helps built at Wynn's Falls was a canal to carry the travelers around the falls without their having to get on land. 3. Gynger, You might want to try Halifax Co. There's a Winns Creek that branches off Dan River toward the south (toward NC line). It crosses underneath US58 about 5 miles east of the Halifax/Pittsylvania line. Hope this helps. He married Alice Porter and had two daughters , Louise and Catherine, then they divorced and she moved to California in the early 20's. We believe he then remarried and had another family. We also beleive that George and Louise were the grandparents to Louise and Catherine. It had been passed down through the family gossip that the daughters were named after their grandmother, so this would fit. Could our Charles be the son of George and Louise Catherine. Thanks Kandie Cansler in California

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AC.2ACE/1407.1 Message Board Post: Hello, I can't help with specifics related to your BARBER search, but I can recommend that you need to look in a different direction [I think] for the information you want. Pittsylvania County was not formed until 1767 [from Halifax County], and Halifax County was formed in 1752 [from either Lunenburg or Mecklenburg County -- I've forgotten which]. For that reason, I think you need to concentrate on Lunenburg or Mecklenburg County -- unless, of course, someone comes along to answer your query who is researching the BARBER family. Curiously enough, I have a BARBER line on my mother's side of the family -- but they were living in New Jersey about the time yours were in Virginia. Richard B. Anderson, Jr.
