    3. To Donald Lumpkin: Don, In response to your question regarding Abram M. Wright and Christopher Wright, my records list the following information. For convenience, I am also copying the Pittsylvania, Bedford, Goochland, and Wright mailing lists. 1875 (year of death) Abram M. Wright of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, (place of death) was born in about 1831 or 1843 at Pittsylvania County, Virginia, married Elizabeth C. Lumpkins on December 31, 1868, at Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and died before July 5, 1875, at Pittsylvania County, Virginia. His parents were 1851 Christopher Wright of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Debo) Wright. 1851 Christopher Wright of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, was born on Dec 30, 1795, at Bedford County, Virginia, married Elizabeth Debo on Dec 3, 1822, at Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and died between June 17 and Aug 18, 1851, at Pittsylvania County, Virginia. His parents were 1845 Thomas Wright of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and Sarah Elizabeth (Pullen) Wright. 1845 Thomas Wright of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, was born between March 1762 and March 1763 probably at Goochland County, Virginia, married as his second wife Sarah Elizabeth Pullen on March 30, 1792, at Bedford County, Virginia, and died between Feb 28 & May 19, 1845, at Pittyslvania County, Virginia. His parents were 1814 John Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, and Mary (Pace) Wright. 1814 John Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, was born probably between June 10, 1732, and June 11, 1736, married Mary Pace on January 14, 1756, at Goochland County, Virginia, and died before Dec 26, 1814, at Bedford County, Virginia. His parents were John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter) and Judith (Easly) Wright. John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter) was born probably before 1719, married Judith Easly probably before 1736, and died after 1772. His parents are as yet unidentified, but our current focus is on the family of 1690 Francis Wright of Lancaster County, Virginia, and his wife Mary (Hill) (Wright) Lawrence. I have recently published my work on John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter) and his descendants and a three CD version is available for $25 from my address below. Best wishes, Robert N. 3. Wow, thank you. I'll try to scan some of mine there as well. I've got graves stone pictures from here and there and usually, they are ones that do not appear in the VA/NC books. The sad thing is that so many of them are now so overgrown, it's almost impossible, even when there are good directions, to find them. I tried to find the grave of Sarah "Sallie" Keesee Colbert. I had great directions, both in the book, and from another family member. Yet, we went down the same road, three times. Finally, I went up to a house, and asked. The older gentleman who used to own the farm (now owned by the son) said it was right where I'd been, but I had to LOOK> So, back again we went. I stood there and it was like looking at one of the "hidden pictures" things. Suddenly, I spotted one stone. Then I saw three, then maybe 50. Now I think that stone is probably broken by the large cherry tree that was taking it over 5 years ago. I did a "rubbing" which is a no no and tried to take a picture, though it's very poor. Shame as it was a very nice, white marble stone, carved with flowers, from 1871, but it's going to be lost. I will check out that site and see if I can upload some of these pictures. Mike, I'll give you better directions to some of these places, if you'd like to travel, though many are in the northern part of the county. 2. Mike, I have documented some family cemeteries there in the county,(that is not in any of the books) I have created a little notebook, in it are 3 Hampton cemeteries, I had been awaiting the actual land lot descriptions of each from a Hampton descendant before I send a copy to the Gen Soc there in Danville. If someone could lookup the land lot info on each I could go ahead and release my copies, I do have SPECIFIC dorections to each that a child could use to find the cemeteries, I also have GPS coordinates of each, In the future I would like to have top maps created with each cemetery noted also. The only thing I'll say about loggers in VA, it depends on who's doing the logging. In one case, on Dews Rd, I can positively tell you it was the best thing that ever happened. The logging family found the cemetery and have restored the wall, and do the best they can to keep it up, though I do not believe they have close ties to the family buried there (DeJarnette's /DeJarnatt/DeJarnet) Those stones, in particular, date to about the early 1830's, and are all oddly, the same stone, though the death dates on them are maybe 10 years in difference. They are not the normal stones found in the area, so I beleive they were all purchased at the same time and somehow they found a "stonecutter" to cut in the death dates. The style on the death dates vary from those of the birthdates. The only thought is that George DeJarnette, having lost his wife, bought a number of stones, in preparation. Then again, perhaps they were common in the area and could be purchased as needed. I haven't found many like that, but maybe he was the only one of my ancestors who had money enough to buy them <G> Can you give out the dates and names on these stones? I have several George DeJarnette in my data base along with other DeJarnette. Thanks, Nancy in IL

I have visited more than 460 already and taken digital pics of them. There are scores that I haven't found yet, due to insufficient directions published in the VANCPGS gravestone inscription books, plus those that have not been published, or those that are no longer accessable. If you know of a cemetery that hasn't been published, let me know by direct e-mail. Please include *specific* directions on how to find it. Such directions as "located on the Slatesville Rd. on the old Jones property" are not sufficient. In return I will offer you data and digital (.jpg) pics from those "new" cemeteries that you helped me find. There is time. It will be 60-90 days before the the leaves, ticks and weeds are gone and I will take to the field again. You will need to be patient. This is a big county and I will have to plan my trips to best utilize my time and gasoline. I am particularly interested in cemeteries in the Eastern part of the county in the Keeling-Ringgold-Route 360 area over to Laurel Grove. I hope to eventually offer all the pictures for download to anyone who wants them. However, web space (storage) for 2500-3000 digital pictures and the program to present/post them is not easy to come by at a low price. At this time please to NOT inquire about the pictures that I already have.

I think once before I was trying to find confirmation on some of what I had been told and you questioned my data. It scared me off in my search at first but I am glad that you did as it help me to challenge what I was reading.I had suspected there would be errors as I saw very little in the terms of citation or documentation in his papers. Of course his search was also back in 1977 and I am not sure where or how he compiled his data and he oftens mentions there is nothing more than conjecture on some of his writings. I was hoping to find either proof or correction on his data. I wondered if he had confused any families as with a name like Wright it would make sense as it could be possible without in-depth research, documentation and citation. I rarely have contact with this uncle, but I know he does reside in Bedford Co,Va. He has given us a small family history from his parents down to our children that includes pictures and family stories. M! y husband does have a letter written to him as a child by his great-grandmother Martha Cunningham Joseph Wright wife of William Breedlove Wright when she was very elderly and living in Kentucky just a short time before her death in 1978. William Breedlove Wright is suposed to have been born 10 Sept 1881 and died 13 June 1966, he is supposed to have been the son of George Harvey Wright (1853 to 8 April 1903) and Jeanette ( or America Jeanette) Trogden and lived in Warren Co Tenn, later moving to Dekalb Co Tenn and Wise Co, Va with his parents. George Harvey Wright reportedly died in Kentucky in early 1900's. My father-in-law was born in Ky. According to this uncle, George Harvey Wright was born 12 Dec 1853 McMinnville, Tenn to James Wright Jr (born 1815 Henry Co,Va) and an Ellender (Nellie) Hutson (born 16 Jan1815 in Tenn to Matthias Hutson and Sarah Knowles). Supposedly Nellie Hutson Wright is buried in Mt Pisgah Meth. Cemetery in White Co, Tenn. James Jr and Nellie are sup! posed to have been married 16 Feb 1836. George Harvey and America Jean ette Trogden Wright supposedly married 30 Oct 1873. Jeanette Trogden Wright is supposed to have died in childbirth in 1889 and is supposedly buried in the Gus Robinson Cemetery in Pound, Va. George remarried in 1894 to Alice Elizabeth Forthing and had two more children. Martha Patsy Cox Wright is reported to have died 9 Sept 1872 in Tenn and is supposed to have been buried at Mt Pisgah Meth Cemetery in Walling Tenn. Martha Cox Wright is supposed to have also raised a relative's son ( a brother-in-law from family stories) named Seth Wright as her own. Seth is reported to have been born 20 Feb 1822 and died in 1901. Martha's land warrants after she was widowed were the ones in Michigan and Missouri. She sold the Michigan one and gave the one in Missouri to her son Barzillai. Elizabeth (Bettie) Wright (1813-1880), Martha and James,Sr's daughter, is reported to have married a William Cruise. Barzillia(Barzillai) Wright (1811-March 1904) who moved to Missouri married a Christian ! C. Swindell in 1832. I am very thankful that you have been able to redirect my search for confirmed connections, as I am interested in finding things out for myself before I become convinced of anything. I would be glad to hear if anyone ever finds out more about our James and Martha's line and exactly who James' father and mother were. It is interesting that there were so many with the same Thomas Wright in that little area all that way back. Well, at least my maiden name ( Eanes) is easier to trace in that area, with an odd name like that its quite a bit easier. Thank you again :o) Mary

I don't have documents either but I have been given much help from Robert Grant and what he tells me matches family stories and some Census Reports have helped me to confirm more. The earliest ancestor I have is a Thomas Wright from Virginia but we have no dates or city for his birth. His sons were Thomas b. bet. 1760-1770 in Pittsylvania County, VA, Robert b. bef. Sept.1, 1780 and George b. bet. 1783 and died bef. June 21, 1784. My line is from the son Thomas and we think his wife was Susanna (taken from a land report) and they had 8 children of whom the first seven were born in Pittsylvania County with the 8th born in Mercer County, KY. The children were Nancy b. abt 1789, Mary b. abt. 1793, Robert b. 1797, Susan b. 1802, George W. b. 1805 (my gggrandfather), Ellen b. bet 1801-1810, Charles, b. July 12, 1812 and John b. 1816 in Mercer County. As you can see there is no James in his chi! ldren but there is a James in George W.'s family. George married Sarah Ann Hayden in April 1823 and they had 10 children in Mercer County. The first child was Thomas b. 1825, George A. b. Oct. 9, 1826, Lemuel Jackson b. Oct. 25, 1828 (my ggrandfather), Melinda b. March. 25, 1831, Nancy b. Jan. 21, 1833, James b. Feb. 3, 1835, Mary b. Feb. 7, 1837, Elizabeth b. Nov. 29, 1839, Samantha b. April 20, 1844 and Sarah b. April 2, 1846. George and his family moved to Kickapoo, Leavenworth County, KS where he died Feb. 22, 1879. I really don't have much about the Virginia years and Robert Grant says there were as many as 5 Thomas Wright's in Pittsylvania County at the same time. Still I'm hoping there's a connection because I just haven't had much luck with any of either Thomas' children beyond George's. Good luck and let me know if this helps. I have some names of spouses for some of the children if that will help and I'll be glad to share anything I have. Mary Ann (Wright) Porter
