Mann died 1/1/1828 in Pittsylvania Co., approximately one year after he, his wife, Edith Bradshaw Mann and at least one son, William B. Mann, Sr., left Prince Edward Co. I'm trying to find out if there's any record of his death, like where he died and how he died. He was 36 in 1828 and apparently working as a bricklayer. And could Thomas Mann who lived in Chesterfield Co., in 1762, is on a list of Tithables for that year, be his grandfather? Thank you.

Does anyone have recent contact info for Charles K. McDaniel? He web-posted several documents relating to Clement McDaniel 1759-1836. In May 2004 I received the dread "undeliverable" return to messages sent to the e-address appearing with his documents ([email protected]). I would appreciate any information that might help me contact him. Carolyn McDowell

Hi Jane, It's pretty easy: Send a note to [email protected] from your old e-mail with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the message body. Then, send a note to the same address from your new e-mail address with the word SUBSCRIBE in the message body. If you're on digest, substitute "-D-" in place of "-L-" in the command e-mail addresses above. Or, contact me privately and I can do it all for you. I am new to research in this area of Virginia. I am researching the Matthew Small family. Matthew Small married Jane Henderson (possibly daughter of Thomas Henderson), is anyone else working on this Henderson family? Can anyone tell me anything about the Hill Top Sanatarium, located on Franklin Turnpike, Tunstall, in 1930? Was it a TB sanatarium? Is it still in existence? Mostly I want to know how to go about getting records. There were two children, Nellie Odum, age 9, and Coy Odum, age 4y, 11m, patients in the sanatarium. This is from the 1930 Tunstall Dist, Pitt. Co. census. I'd like to know what happened to them and if they survived. I think they may be children of David and Ollie Odum who were living in Danville in 1920. If they were, they had an older sister, Alice Odum, age 12, who was a lodger in the home of Lester C. and Rebecca Rector in 1930, which indicates David and Ollie may have died and left them orphans. If anyone knows what happened to any of these children or how I can find out, please email me privately or to the list. Thank you. Dana

Only DNA from the Y-chromosome will be tested and as such, only males who are directly descended (or believed to be descended) from the HERRING family name should apply. This also includes spelling variants of the surname such as Herren, Hearing, Harring, Herrin, etc. If you are a female researcher, you can participate indirectly if you have a brother, father, paternal uncle, or male cousin with the HERRING or variant surname who is willing to submit a DNA sample. Others may participate by sharing the cost of the HERRING surname DNA testing. Because we are acting as a Surname Project, we qualify for discounted testing rates. Have just acquired a book by Mr. Osborne, Rememberances Volume IV. Am delighted and wondered if anyone knows how I can contact him to see if I can get the other volumes, also have heard that he may do a fifth book. His daughter put him in the Heritage Book on page 263, she is Nancy O. Pickeral. Would anyone know how I could contact her, her address was given as Chatham, Va. Perhaps she could put me in contact with her father, the book I have is totally priceless for anyone interested in basic Pittsylvania history. Thanks so much, Sylvia Reynolds
