Does anyone have any information on Christopher Bowling Sr. and Christopher Bowling Jr that appear on the first list of tithables taken in Pittsylvania county in 1767? They were in a list of tithables taken by Peter Perkins. The Bowling/Bowlins listed were: Christopher Bowlin, son William Joseph Bowlin, 1 tithe James Bowlin, 1 tithe Christopher Bowling, jun. If anyone knows anything about these Bowlin/Bowlings, I would love to hear about it! I have Bowlings that appear later in Hawkins, TN, and one of my ancestors was a Christopher Bowling/Bolin that was born in Hawkins, TN in 1787. I'm hoping there may be a connection. Thanks. I know they were living in Danville from at least 1910 per the census for Danville. Mary was probably born between 1883 -1887. I do not know if Meeks was her married name or her maiden name. In the 1910 census she is listed as a Mary Meeks, widow. She later married "Doc" Allen and is still in Danville in the 1920 census. By 1930 she is a widow again, but still in Danville. Her daughter Minnie married an Alex Paul and her daughter Ella married Wyatt Doss. Any help would be appreciated. Priscilla

In 1828 there were no public cemeteries here. Most people were buried on the farm where they lived. Of course, many instances where there were farms in the 1800s today are nothing but forests. A land deed might give a clue as to where they lived. Deeds must be searched at the courthouse in Chatham. That kind of search would involve costs.
