On the 1850 Patrick Census is listed the following: family # 72 Richard Wood, Sr. - 74 Lucy - 30 A.J. - 18 Mary - 17 James P. - 16 Lucinda - 14 Ruth E. - 9 Nancy - 7 Frederick - 6 Laura - 5 William - 1 family # 73 Richard Wood, Jr. - 40 Elizabeth - 35 Alex'r - 17 Samuel J. - 15 Henry - 13 Louisa - 10 Josiah - 8 Rebecca - 6 Mary Ann - 4 Margaret - 3 William - 7/12 Sr. and Jr. did not always mean father and son. It could be the older Richard and the younger Richard. This Richard Jr. has a wife named Elizabeth. We can't find a Richard with a wife named Elizabeth born about 1810.
