Hi, I wanted to thank Barb R. for the info on my Hurd's. John Green Hurd was my g-grandfather. He married first a Minnie, who is probably the Minta Fain in the marriage record Barb found. Claiborne was his brother. We were always told that he jumped out of a hotel window to his death. Don't know why...... John Green Hurd moved to Pulaski County VA where he was a merchant and minister. He wrote one book on religion during his life, played the violin and married 2 more times. He married Martha Ann Bentley in Pulaski County as well as Malissie Holbrook. He died in 1944 in Pulaski. My next question is where is the Dan River District, so that I can narrow my search ????? I did find a Martha Herd in the 1880 Patrick census with sons John and Jackson.
